A Halloween Article in May?

The South End Newspaper (daily newspaper at Wayne State University) has an article on the history of Halloween. An article that seemed slapped together at the last minute with little to no source-checking.

“The Celtic priests and wizards called the Druids, were well-educated in astrology and magic. During Samhin, the Druids built large bonfires and often human sacrifices were executed, a practice to honor the Druid gods”

The source for that little gem? Why those fair and balanced (Christian) folks at The Wonderful World Tomorrow. But wait it gets better.

“the Celts would burn someone at the stake who was believed to be possessed by a spirit to make an example of the person for the spirits”

The source for that one? Wilstar.com, the personal web site of a former (Christian) science teacher. I can’t believe someone in college wrote this. I hope their major isn’t journalism.
