There are always waves of resurgent interest in magick among young people in general and women in particular. The current wave of ghosts and goblins featured on TV are pretty pathetic, so they aren't learning anything worth knowing, and are, in fact, getting a lot a patriarchal bullshit mixed in with the good stuff. I want the Sex and the City crowd to stay far away from me, and far away from magick. I hate that whole vibe. Shallow and indiscriminate do not equal liberated. Let them stick with their manolos and bulemia and leave us alone.

I think this is a gothic literature revival of sorts and that's welcome - certainly an improvement over most chick lit fare. Remember, when the likes of 'Melmoth the Wanderer', 'Northanger Abbey' and 'Frankenstein' were first written they were often read by 'young ladies' - indeed Jane Austin wrote Northanger Abbey as a spoof in response to the hysterical reactions of many of her female peers when reading such books. 'Frankenstein' was a response to growing concerns at the time about man playing God and today we have increasing fears over GM food and technology dehumanising us, so it's not surprising to see both a revival in pagan and gothic interest. x
