Advance Book Heads-Up
The AltaMira web site has ordering information up now for a book that will do for American Paganism what “Triumph of The Moon” did for the history of modern British Witchcraft. I’m speaking of Chas Clifton’s upcoming book “Her Hidden Children: The Rise of Paganism in America”. Finally a history of American Paganism from someone who knows the subject inside and out!
Here is what Ronald Hutton (author of “Triumph of the Moon”) has to say about the upcoming work.
“Simply the best single work yet written on the history of American Paganism. It is perceptive, intelligent, sympathetic and persuasive; tactful without sparing scholarly appraisal; personal without losing objectivity; and constantly engaging. It embodies a beautiful mixture of warmth and rigour, and deals strictly with aspects of the subject that can be appraised from precise data, revealing to me- at least- how much more of the latter there was than I had ever thought.”
You can look at the table of contents, here. I urge anyone interested in the subject, anyone who has griped about the state of the Pagan book market, anyone who wished there was more “serious” material out there, anyone wanting to understand our past and to prepare for our future to pre-order a copy of this book! Those who have read my blog know that I’m no huckster for the passing publishing fad, this is the real deal folks, don’t get caught sleeping.
For those still unconvinced I point to Clifton’s excellent essay “Nature Religion For Real”, the essential “The Paganism Reader” (which he co-edited), or his ongoing blog.
