Ever Wondered If She Was A…
I’m currently having a lot of fun finding out the religious affiliations of science-fiction and fantasy authors. Within the pages you can find out that urban fantasy author Charles De Lint is placed in the “other” category and describes himself as adhering to “an idiosyncratic form of animism”, and that classic fantasy/sci-fi author Fritz Leiber belonged to a Pagan group called “Freya’s Folk”.
The other thing that struck me was that some very Pagan-leaning novels were written by Unitarian-Universalist authors. This includes modern Pagan favorite Emma Bull who wrote the ground-breaking urban fantasy “War For The Oaks”. I sometimes wonder if UU is the default home for congregationalist-minded modern Pagans.
If that doesn’t float your boat and you would prefer something on the lighter side, you could also check out the religious affiliations of comic-book characters. With short essays describing how Superman is a Methodist, or that Wonder Woman “could be said to be a “pagan” in the word’s contemporary religious sense”.
Thanks to Oaksong for the links.
