Keeping Up With King Mob

Perhaps it shouldn’t be so surprising that two of the most famous working magic(k)-makers in our current culture are both comic-book writers. The first is Alan Moore (Promethea, From Hell), the second is Grant Morrison. Morrison is perhaps most famous (outside the insular world of comic fandom) for his comic series “The Invisibles”. The comic focused on a radical cell of weirdos and outcasts who fought against physical and spiritual oppression. Morrison claimed that the entire comic was a massive magickal “hypersigil” meant to jump-start a more positive culture. Since then Morrison has become something of a cult figure inspiring scores of counter-cultural “Generation Hex” practitioners.

Morrison recently gave a talk at the comic-book convention WonderCon. In addition to updating fans on his usual writing chores for DC Comics and pontificating on the nature of magic(k) he also revealed two projects that are sure to excite fans of his more mystical output. The first is a planned sequel to his beloved “Invisibles” series, scheduled to come out in 2008 “when this conservative era ends”. The second is a new “major work” planned with groundbreaking artist JH Williams III (who illustrated Promethea) that is said to be in the same vein as his “Invisibles” material. So fans of non-linear, conspiracy-laden, chaos-magick-invoking work rejoice!
