Secrets From The Potter’s Wheel
This seems almost too good to be true, but apparently a group of French archaeologists have been able to play sounds from pottery in ancient Pompeii. The sounds drawn from the grooves in the pottery include noise from the workshop and laughter.

Imagine what we could learn once this technology is refined further! Snippets of idle conversations from our distant past, the ramifications for history and linguistics could be massive. Every pot would no longer be a static artifact but a potential recording!
Thanks to DJ Kangal for the link.
UPDATE: Looks like it is to good to be true.
