CBS Wants To Show Me The Way

A new television show featuring witchcraft is headed to CBS. The network has ordered a pilot of a show entitled “The Way”. The series will focus on a family of witches after the clan matriarch has passed away. The siblings (two brothers and a sister) use magic to cement and advance their powerful family business. The show is being portrayed as “Practical Magic” meets “The Sopranos”.

Julia Ormond

So far only two cast members have been announced. Riley Smith (“Joan of Arcadia”, “24″) and British actress Julia Ormond (“Smilla’s Sense of Snow”, “Legends of the Fall”). The pilot was written by Adam Kulakow who is also co-executive producer along with Michael De Luca. This show represents an interesting move for a major television network. Usually supernatural elements are relegated to smaller networks like WB, UPN, or Fox. But considering the loyal audience shows like “Buffy” and “Charmed” command I’m surprised the bigger networks took so long to get in on the action. Now we can only hope that it doesn’t suck.

I’m not very convinced that this program will shed any positive light on neo-paganism / witchcraft. After all, these people in the business of entertainment are trying to make a buck and get ratings. Real witches won’t be on the show, just actors and models who will act their trendy arses off for the paycheck and exposure.I am concerned how they will portray the modern witch and what impression this would make on the mundanes. There is enough misinformation out there about us as it is without tossing more fanciful untruths in the mix for the public to view and laugh at.Paganism / Witchcraft is a way of life, a religion, not a parlor game.BoJo~
