I too am supprised that Jeff was allowed to take pictures of Eleggua. But I also see a more open and accepting attitude towards Ocha than when I was initiated. And I too believe Ellegua has plans for Jeff and that's truly an honor that Ellegua welcomed him & showed himself. It's so funny when people sit in my living room with his doors wide open & he never shows himself. As for Palo Mayombe, personally I agree with the decision not to accept it into the NARC.
Palo is nasty, viscious stuff and I like to believe Ocha is above stooping to those means. Just think what it would do to the Religion's reputation if people knew what went into the making of a Cauldron of the Congo or Palo. Where Ocha initiation is so precious, moving and pure. When I received my Elekes it brought me to tears.Have fun Jeff and blessings, Daughter of Yemaya.

MAx Beauvoir is NOT the "public face of Haitian Vodou", he is a self-aggrandizing opportunist with political ambitions, that's all. His reputation for defrauding AIDS victims and for sexual abuse of women who come to him for instruction, is legendary. He recently threatened the President of Haiti with a "Vodou curse" because he didn't get a political appointment he wanted. But as we can all see, Haitian President Rene Preval is still there, still in good health. In Vodou, each Houngan or Mambo (female priest) has just as much authority as any other Houngan or Mambo. The final authority in our religion is our liturgy, our rules and regulations, and those are the same in every temple, otherwise of what use would they be?You can find free, accurate information about Haitian Vodou, and many, many links to more pages by and about both Haitian and non-Haitian practitioners, at http://members.aol.com/racine125/index.html .

This is really heartening. I am very tired of hearing Afro-diasporic traditions get dissed and stereotyped--too often by Pagans as well as mainstream media. (Ticks me off when such stereotyping is leveled at Asatru, too. _Especially_ when the offender is Pagan, it bugs me. As if we only want religious liberty for Wicca?!?)Maybe the nicest touch of all is the acceptance of spiritual diversity that the respect and offering awarded Ellegua by the reporter implies. Wow--we may just be becoming a civilzed culture! Fancy that!
