I don’t think Kristin Aune was saying the hierarchies were imagined, I think she was saying that the idea that they are integral to the church was imagined. Though many forms of Christian theology do seem to envisage a hierarchy with God at the top and us at the bottom…

About time! The christian church abandoned women a aeons ago – it’s about time they returned the favour. And as for imagining heirachies – I haven’t seen a female archbishop of Canterbury yet. Till that happens and they edit all the bigoted, misogynistic stuff out of the bible I’m not interested.
