Some of us Africans, do respect our ancestors by doing ceremonies once or twice a year to apease them because we believe they are part of our lives. They play a vital part in our lives especially in healing and guidance. They talk to us by appearing to a living being especially their grown up grandchildren. The child would go into a trance then the ancestor gives instructions to the people present. People would also say their requests to the ancestor. I think this is another way of God communicating with His people.

[...] July 19 2009, Caroline Kenner, “Not Just at Samhain: Time for Our Ancestors”. “At this point, I believe that Ancestor veneration is so important that it amounts to a missing cornerstone in Wicca. And since Wicca is constantly evolving, I suggest that now is a great time for us to begin including the Ancestors in our ceremonies all year round. We really shouldn’t wait until Samhain comes around once a year to invoke them, celebrate them and feast them.” [...]
