Chocolate Aphrodisiac Brew

1 cup dried damiana
 herb (1)
4 sticks cinnamon
1 vanilla pod (2)
1 tsp angelica root (5)
3 cups Jamaican spiced rum – I like Captain Morgan’s.
2 T baking cocoa: best to choose high quality, dark chocolate,  cocoa powder, from cacao beans (3)
honey to taste, about a 1/2 cup
1 vial Royal Jelly (4)

In a large, glass wide-mouthed container that can be tightly sealed, add the rum. Split open vanilla pod and add beans to the jar. Throw in the cinnamon sticks, damiana herb, angelica root and cocoa powder. Seal in the jar and store in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks. Every now and again, shake the jar. You are basically making an alcohol extraction of these herbs.

When ready, strain the herbs from the rum using a sieve first. Once the bulky stuff is removed, I like to filter it one more time through a finer coffee filter, to remove all the small particles. Once strained into a clean jar, add honey and royal jelly. Stir until well blended.

Bottle it up! This recipe is best if left to mellow for a while, but it can be served right away. I recommend no more than a swig at a time, shortly before you get….ahem…busy.  It can also be added to other cocktails in place of plain rum.

Have fun this Beltane, but please drink responsibly. Remember Heron’s first rule of witchcraft is “don’t burn the witch,” starting with you. You are precious! Take good care of yourself and others this Beltane Sabbat.

Enjoy!
