Doomsday Cult Prophet Sentenced for Marrying a 7-Year-Old

Utah is a state notorious for cults. Many factions have broken off from the Mormon church to practice fundamental Mormonism and polygamy. Today a cult is in the news for the sentencing of one the “prophets” for child sodomy and child bigamy offenses. John Coltharp received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He is a founding member of the Knights of the Crystal Blade which is a two-for-one Doomsday and polygamy cult. What makes them even more unique is their taste for children under the age of eight years old. Coltharp’s buddy Samuel Shaffer was sentenced to 26 years to life for similar charges.

Here’s the deal on these two weirdos:

Shaffer and Colthrap started their cult online. They billed it as a church for the millennials. Last September the two of them got the harebrained idea to take their kids to a compound made out of shipping containers. Each of the guys had two young daughters.

For some inexplicable reason, they decided to take each other’s children as child brides. Their kids were between the ages of 4 and 8 years old. The mothers of the children reported them missing. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the missing girls.

The Amber Alert helped authorities locate the girls in a remote location. Two of the girls were found stuffed into barrels, and the other two girls were hidden in a mobile home on the property. Following the rescue of the girls, police arrested the men on sodomy and child bigamy charges. Authorities said the girls went through a horrific experience and may never recover.

I will never understand the fundamentalist sects obsession with having child brides. These dudes apparently like to vail their pedophilia with a cover of religion to justify their actions.

Fast forward to today in court; the judge issues his sentence. Reports describe Coltharp as defiant and unremorseful as the judge hands him the punishment. Coltharp told the judge he was following the instructions of his heavenly father. Next, he said to the judge he’s actually Jacob from the Old Testament sent to earth to promote child marriage.

Well, ok then. I guess Coltharp likes to use the Jacob excuse for being a pervert.

The Judge told Coltharp he was wrong and his views weren’t Biblical. He closed by telling him that he hoped was never released from prison.

Coltharp told the court he didn’t care about his sentence because the world is going to end soon anyway. I’m guessing he will be in for a rude awakening when he’s still sitting in prison at age 80. However, we can just let him keep on believing the world is going to end.

When he gets to prison, he’s going to be ripe pickings for a revenge killing by inmates who detest child molesters. I have a feeling he will get what’s coming to him.

For now, the children are safe from the horrible misdeeds of their fathers. My thoughts are with them as they work to recover and process the terror their fathers put them through.

Wait, what!? I know I’m focusing on a detail here, but… Do they really, actually have specific laws against child bigamy in Utah?

  • I was SHOCKED by that too!

  • Cozmo the Magician

So you are advocating vigilante justice? Sorry, but the asshole was tried , convicted, and sentenced in a court of law. That is what America is about. You are advocating that CRIMINALS decide on ‘justice’. FFS, really?

  • dariofprsia

I thought the exact same thing.
When you need THAT specific a law, you know that something is very wrong…

  • zenlike

Yeah, I always shudder when I see people seemingly rejoice in the failings of the prison system. Violence amongst inmates is nothing to cheer about. These jackasses got the sentence they deserve, which consists of prison time, NOT on barbaric violence aimed at them.

  • This guy is the lowest of the low. I have very little empathy for men that abuse and rape children. I didn’t say I wanted anything – but that he will reap what he sows

  • zenlike

But he already rept what he sowed: he looses his freedom, and society is protected from him. Look, I get it, what this fucker did is horrific, but violence as punishment is not the answer. To be quite honest, we are all human, and I will not loose much sleep if this guy gets assaulted in prison, at least, not as much sleep as over the fate of his victims, but that doesn’t mean the assault perpetrated on him is any less barbaric or a serious crime in and of itself.

  • I understand what you are saying. I do.

Another horrific example of religious people lacking basic decency. Those poor girls.

  • I know. I feel terrible for them.

Not just fundamentalist sects or even the religious. It’s something that needs some study.

  • Jim Jones

Most people put their concern and effort into punishing the offenders. I would like to see helping the victims come first on the list.

  • kaydenpat

That should be the focus for crimes especially those involving children.
