Catherine Oxenberg’s new book Captive: A Mother’s Crusade to Save Her Daughter from a Terrifying Cult was released this morning. As a part of the media blitz, Catherine sat down with People Magazine to discuss her fight to save her daughter. There is even a happy ending to her battle to get her daughter back. She reported that her daughter broke from the sex-slave cult. In the interview, Catherine discussed how she learned from a friend in spring 2017 that her daughter, India, was… Read more

As parents, most of us want to see our kids succeed. Most parents want their children to become successful and independent. As their children reach their various milestones, most parents smile with pride and joy. My story of motherhood is a little bit different. My son has numerous medical conditions that have ravaged his body. In his short time on earth, many people have underestimated him. Some of his therapists and doctors have given up on him. However, I… Read more

Another day, another story regarding child sexual abuse perpetrated by a church pastor. On July 13th, Pastor Kevin Berry of First Christian Church of Sedgwick was arrested for a felony associated with lewd touching and fondling of a minor between the ages of 14 and 16. He was booked that evening, and by the following morning released on bail. In typical fashion, the church issued a statement supporting the Pastor and giving no mention to the victim: “The First… Read more

An interesting story out of South Carolina, fell into my lap this afternoon. According to WISTV out of South Carolina, a police incident report detailed a bizarre event with former GOP Executive Director, Todd Kincannon of Simpsonville, South Carolina. Kincannon killed his mother’s dog, and he told police that God told him to do it. On July 26th, officers responded to a call at Kincannon’s home. Kincannon appeared to be covered in blood. He told the officers he killed… Read more

In 2001 a friend invited me to attend an information session for the Landmark Forum. At the time, I was in my senior year of college and looking for something more in my life. All of my friends had the same thirst for more substance in their lives. Over an evening of beer and popcorn, a mutual friend to all of us convinced us that Landmark transformed his life. He seemed intoxicated with happiness and full of hope. I… Read more

Earlier this week I wrote about how law enforcement officers often don’t believe victims of rape. Today I I found a candidate in Milwaukee County Sherriff’s race in Wisconsin with an anti-woman position. News outlets have uncovered podcasts from a candidate running as a Democrat. The content of the podcasts appears to be contradictory to the Democrat platform. Acting County Sherriff Rich Schmidt instructed women in disastrous marriages to submit to their husbands and condemned abortions. A second sermon spoke… Read more

Hey Girl, I see you and your fabulous posts on Social Media. Actually, it would be impossible to miss how incredible your life is given you post about 15 times a day. You are a #BossBabe, #Mompreneur, and kicking butt and taking names in your business. All those trips and cruises you go on for selling those products is pretty amazeballs. Gee, I wish I could have that life. Oh, wait, no I don’t. Because your life is a… Read more

A Sunday school teacher at Firstborn Baptist Church in Benson, North Carolina was charged in July with sexually assaulting a child. Jonathan Young, 34, was charged with six counts of first-degree rape of a child, three counts of statutory rape, two charges of first-degree sexual offense, and two charges of indecent liberties to a child.   Yesterday I shared a story about the horrific murder of a 4-year-old girl at the hands of her mother. The mother, Shakayla Denson, dragged the non-verbal, autistic four-year-old to the river and let go of her. Je’Hyrah Daniels was recovered by divers shortly after witnesses notified police. Police arrested the mother within a mile of the crime. Yesterday the Tampa Bay Times provided new information about the CPS investigation filed against the mother. Six weeks ago a child protection… Read more

Today I stumbled on a news story that hit very close to home. The Tampa Bay Times reported that Shakayla Denson drowned her 4-year-old daughter in a river. Several reports have suggested the little girl,  Je’Hyrah Daniels had autism. Authorities located a GoFundMe set up by the mother last fall. On the GoFundMe page, the mother requested money to help pay for therapy and equipment following her daughter’s diagnosis of autism. Too often I read of stories of children… Read more
