Republican asks colleagues to pray for Obama's death

How did I not hear about this?

Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal is under fire after asking Republican House members to pray for President Barack Obama’s death. O’Neal made the request via an email he forwarded to GOP colleagues in the House. In an email sent in December, O’Neal asked his fellow Republicans to pray Psalm 109, which contains the following lines:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

Hi.  I’m treason, have we met?  In the process of being a moralizing force Jesus should have slipped a note to this guy explaining the elementary and obvious fact that calling for the death of your political opponents is wrong.

Kinda makes you wonder how many other Christians, who wonder how morality is possible without faith, are praying for the death of Obama, doesn’t it?

The relevant verse from Psalm 109 is considered a prayer for vengeance, a prayer for the death of a leader. The most damning part of the prayer is lines 7-12:

‘When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.’

Tell me again how there’s naught but beauty in the bible.

It’s obviously all that sophistimacated theology we keep hearing about.

It’s considered that in error. In actuality, Ps109 is the heartfelt cry of a maligned but good leader who is QUOTING all the calumny directed his way by those who are jealous of his position and want to undermine him.

“for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.”

I keep pointing this out! These people are soaking in irony.

Obama is (obviously, I would say) not the inheritor of King David, but a sprinkle of context might make people pause. Oh, well, a delicious cheep shot plus THE BIBLE! is as much as one can expect.

I’ve been seeing those e-mails for at least a couple of years now. I think they started going out not long after he won the election, but people started noticing it late in 2009. Perhaps the speaker is just behind on his e-mail…

Or, rather, a cry for vengeance against Fox News.

Why do you want to make the Baby Be Scofield cry?

      LOL!!

And yet, despite all those prayers and, presumably, the will of an omnipotent deity, he lives.

There’s one more reason I called KS ‘Dumbfuckistan’ the entire 7 years I lived there (no time off for good behavior).

Glad I got the fuck out! I’m loving the Pacific Northwet. (no, that’s not a typo.) ;-)

Why does this not surprise me anymore?

This is why I find the supposed comforting nature of the Psalms questionable and incomplete at best. They’ve gotten an inaccurate good reputation due to Psalm 23, even though there are many that focus on vengeance and violence.

I can’t wait until I can move away from Kansas. Rather ashamed of our politician’s actions anymore.

You have to consider the context…
