Cranston decision tonight

Tonight the banner committee at Cranston West will decide whether or not to appeal their initial loss.  They will convene at 6pm EST but we’ll likely not see a decision until later.

This has been a harrowing ordeal for Jessica Ahlquist.  Despite having the support of atheists around the world I’m sure at times, especially times like now, Cranston can seem like a bubble into which no tangible, personal help can enter.  I have no doubt that right now she feels pretty alone – the believers who would rather the school break the law have done their best to make it so.

Tonight it may finally conclude and I hope it does, not only for the students whose education will suffer if the school decides to lose on principle, but for Jessica who has endured an insufferable situation long past the point when most of us would’ve quit.

Jessica is on twitter and so is one of her best friends and ardent supporters, Taylor.  If you’re around, throw them some support.

And if you have time today to inundate the school board with requests to not piss away hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, give it a go.  I wrote a letter you can send them if you feel so inclined.

Are any of you going to be there?

I’m sorry little Timmy, we don’t have the money for books this year. We spent our budget making Jeebus love us more.

  • Art Vandelay

Yes…I’m going. I’m only about 12 minutes from there. Want me to read your open letter at the podium?

If you feel so led, knock yourself out.

However, would you be willing to keep us informed via twitter? If you can text, I’ll send you my number.

      • Art Vandelay

How do you these things work? Do you have to get yourself on the agenda or do you just line up behind the podium?

I’m not much of a tweeter but I can certainly give you the play by play. Hang on…I’ll shoot you an email.

    • Marshall

Seeing as how you have JT’s permission, I think that would be a very good idea.

    • Katie Tims

      Go for it!
