Dad on Paul Ryan

A couple of minor things about Paul Ryan.

Ryan hasn’t spent any time working in the private sector. It has all been politics. Wasn’t that one of the right wing reasons why Obama shouldn’t be elected: never ran a business and limited experience in the private sector? How come that doesn’t apply to Ryan?

Neither Mitt, nor any of his sons, nor Ryan have served in the armed forces. Wasn’t that one of the right wing reasons why Obama shouldn’t be elected: the troops wouldn’t be able to respect a Commander in Chief who hadn’t actually served? How come this doesn’t apply to Mitt and Paul?

I’ll tell you why….the wingers are hypocrites who spout excuses instead of providing reasons. That’s why.

  • ‘Tis Himself

Both Romney and Ryan have always had upper-middle to upper class lives. They’ve never had to worry about affording medical care. If the hot water heater or the washing machine needs replacement, they can buy a new one with ready money. Worrying about company downsizing is not a concern for them. They’ve never bought hamburger because steak was too expensive. For that matter, they don’t know what a food stamp looks like.

In short, neither Romney nor Ryan have any idea about the wants, needs and fears of most Americans. They don’t know and they don’t care.

According to Ryan himself, after his father died, he banked his Social Security survivor benefits, and used them to pay his out of state college tuition. So, yeah, very libertarian to use government sponsored out of state education to better himself, and then turn around and try to dismantle the system for everyone else.

(In the USA) Prior to about 1982, if a man died before he retired and could collect any payout from Social Security, his children could receive a check from SS until they were 22, if they were full tim students. I know this because my boyfriend and one of my roommates had money to go to college because of this. However, Reagan cut it during his first term, so that fatherless young adults were sadly out of luck. So the payout used to support young people longer, if they were students. Clearly, it isn’t means tested.

It’s simple. Obama shouldn’t be elected because his lack of experience in the private sector and his lack of service means that he didn’t learn important lessons about the way the economy works.

That criticism doesn’t apply to R&R because, despite their lack of service and Ryan’s lack of private sector experience, they clearly know how economics work and apparently learned the hard lessons the easy way.

At least, that’s how I would rationalize it if I was a Republican.

    • KDoug

Nah, it’s much simpler than that. Romney & Ryan are exempt from criticism because CONSERVATIVE! And Obama is not above criticism because LIBERAL!
