Oklahoma lawmakers consider getting rid of marriage entirely to keep the gays out.

The GOP is all about marriage: it’s necessary for society!  It’s what separates us from tyrannical nations of years past.  Without marriage the nation will crumble.

Unless, of course, it looks like people the GOP doesn’t think should be allowed to marry might get a slice of the pie.  Then, in order to keep the homos out of the special club, they’re willing to axe it for everybody.

State lawmakers are considering throwing out marriage in Oklahoma.

The idea stems from a bill filed by Rep. Mike Turner (R-Edmond). Turner says it’s an attempt to keep same-sex marriage illegal in Oklahoma while satisfying the U.S. Constitution. Critics are calling it a political stunt while supporters say it’s what Oklahomans want.

“[My constituents are] willing to have that discussion about whether marriage needs to be regulated by the state at all,” Turner said.

Other conservative lawmakers feel the same way, according to Turner.

“Would it be realistic for the State of Oklahoma to say, ‘We’re not going to do marriage period,’” asked News 9′s Michael Konopasek.

“That would definitely be a realistic opportunity, and it’s something that would be part of the discussion,” Turner answered.

I’m actually ok with this idea.  At least it will be a decision that produces equality, which will be a step in the right direction.  If the GOP in Oklahoma can only produce decision that honor equality by pitching a fit, I’ll take it.

It does make you wonder about all that “marriage is what produces good kids and keeps society ticking” bullshit they’ve thrown out over the years though.  If you take them at their word, they’re willing to watch the nation burn to keep gays from exchanging rings (the sex and co-habitation already happens).  Then again, we knew that from when they tried to shut down the government.
