The rest of what’s going on: Catholic hospitals, Spongebob Squarepants, and convictions for assaulting gay people.

Here’s all the stuff that didn’t make the blog today.

The majority of Americans who have left religion claim science as the reason.  This is why religion is having a difficult time in the information age.

Trump’s campaign CEO, Steve Bannon, is registered to vote at a vacant address in Florida, a key swing state.  Uh oh.

Rewire reports that a Chicago woman whose IUD became dislodged was turned away from a Catholic hospital for religious reasons:

Her doctor confirmed the IUD was dislodged and had to be removed. But the doctor said she would be unable to remove the IUD, citing Catholic restrictions followed by Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and providers within its system.

“I think my first feeling was shock,” Jones told Rewire in an interview. “I thought that eventually they were going to recognize that my health was the top priority.”

The doctor left Jones to confer with colleagues, before returning to confirm that her “hands [were] tied,” according to two complaints filed by the ACLU of Illinois. Not only could she not help her, the doctor said, but no one in Jones’ health insurance network could remove the IUD, because all of them followed similar restrictions. Mercy, like many Catholic providers, follows directives issued by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that restrict access to an array of services, including abortion care, tubal ligations, and contraception.

An Atlanta man who threw boiling water on a sleeping same-sex couple is convicted and sentenced to 40 years.

Police in Egypt are using dating apps to find and convict gay people for the crime of not letting somebody else’s religion dictate their love life.

Here’s a good article on past campaigns that, like Trump, relied on secret voters, invisible to the polls, to carry the election.  Spoiler: those “secret voters” don’t turn up on election day.

A Salafi preacher hits us with the straight dope: Spongebob Squarepants is turning kids gay.

The meteorologist on CNN who was skeptical of climate change has had his mind changed. w00t evidence!

Eric Trump says one of the reasons his dad is running for President is because the holiday tree at the White House is called a holiday tree:

Eric Trump, listing off reasons his father is running for president, said in an interview this week that one of the motivations was the renaming of the White House Christmas tree to “holiday tree.”

The right wing base will eat that up.  The rest of us will say, “really?”
