Hey filmmakers! Here’s a chance to get some eyes on your work and maybe even win some prizes! The International Freethought Film Festival is a niche film festival for the bold. Examples of themes in the Freethought niche are those that challenge what some societies and cultures deem beyond challenge, such as religion or government [Read More...]
From this coming Wednesday to the following Wednesday is Secular Students Week, a tradition that started back when I was with the Secular Student Alliance. Every year I do a day-long gaming fundraiser for them and this year I’ll be doing it this coming Friday, June 12. The stream will be embedded here on this [Read More...]

I met Taslima Nasrin at American Atheists 2014. She was remarkably sweet, so much so that it was one of the highlights of the conference for me. For those unfamiliar with Nasrin she’s an author and activist fighting the ill-effects of Islam in the world. Sadly, she was recently pegged as the next target by [Read More...]
A few weeks ago I wrote a blog asking for support for youtuber Stephanie Guttormson who was being sued by a faith healer she’d criticized. It went viral and the support came flooding in. Thanks to everybody who shared or contributed in any way Adam Miller has now tucked his tail. Stephanie announced on her [Read More...]
Rather than lose a lawsuit a County in Minnesota now allows secular celebrants to perform civil marriages.

U.S. District [Read More...]

Idaho parents get “anti-Christian” book banned, learn the hard way that censorship doesn’t stop people from reading it.
The book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is apparently quite a read (I’ve never had the privilege, though I’m thinking of fixing that now): Published in 2007, it won the National Book Award and has become popular with young teens, supposedly for its universal themes of fitting in, making sense of race, and [Read More...]
I stated earlier that I wasn’t behind the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s motivation for their draw Muhammad contest. I think it should be about sending a message that free speech will not be abdicated at the point of the truncheon, but I think the AFDI did it to offend for the sake of offending. That being [Read More...]
