Are you a freethinking filmmaker? Submit your film to the Freethought Film Festival!

Hey filmmakers!  Here’s a chance to get some eyes on your work and maybe even win some prizes! The International Freethought Film Festival is a niche film festival for the bold. Examples of themes in the Freethought niche are those that challenge what some societies and cultures deem beyond challenge, such as religion or government [Read More...]

I’ll be doing an all-day game stream for Secular Students Week. Tell me what games to play.

From this coming Wednesday to the following Wednesday is Secular Students Week, a tradition that started back when I was with the Secular Student Alliance.  Every year I do a day-long gaming fundraiser for them and this year I’ll be doing it this coming Friday, June 12.  The stream will be embedded here on this [Read More...]

CFI has helped relocate endangered secular blogger to the United States and is working on more.

I met Taslima Nasrin at American Atheists 2014.  She was remarkably sweet, so much so that it was one of the highlights of the conference for me.  For those unfamiliar with Nasrin she’s an author and activist fighting the ill-effects of Islam in the world. Sadly, she was recently pegged as the next target by [Read More...]

Adam Miller has dropped his lawsuit against Stephanie Guttormson.

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog asking for support for youtuber Stephanie Guttormson who was being sued by a faith healer she’d criticized.  It went viral and the support came flooding in.  Thanks to everybody who shared or contributed in any way Adam Miller has now tucked his tail.  Stephanie announced on her [Read More...]

Rather than lose a lawsuit a County in Minnesota now allows secular celebrants to perform civil marriages.

Washington County in Minnesota previously would not allow secular celebrants to perform civil (read: not religious) marriages.  They sued for the right and a federal judge just threw out their case: Minnesota atheists scored a victory for equal treatment even though a federal judge tossed out their lawsuit against Washington County on Wednesday. U.S. District [Read More...]

Disrespectful Atheists

I recently posted a video about atheists who are dicks to religious people just because they are religious. I don’t have much to say that I haven’t already said in the video, but I do want to make sure that you all understand why I felt like this video was necessary. One of the main things [Read More...]

Faith healer Adam Miller suing youtuber for pointing out he’s a fraud.

Stephanie Guttormson is the Operations Director for the Richard Dawkins Foundation.  She also runs a youtube channel called Think Stephtically on which she has pointed out on a few occasions that Adam Miller, a purported Faith Healer is, well, full of shit. Now Miller is suing her for copyright infringement, tortious interference, and defamation. The short [Read More...]

Idaho parents get “anti-Christian” book banned, learn the hard way that censorship doesn’t stop people from reading it.

The book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is apparently quite a read (I’ve never had the privilege, though I’m thinking of fixing that now): Published in 2007, it won the National Book Award and has become popular with young teens, supposedly for its universal themes of fitting in, making sense of race, and [Read More...]

The winner of the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s draw Muhammad contest is, well, great.

I stated earlier that I wasn’t behind the American Freedom Defense Initiative’s motivation for their draw Muhammad contest.  I think it should be about sending a message that free speech will not be abdicated at the point of the truncheon, but I think the AFDI did it to offend for the sake of offending. That being [Read More...]
