Georgia governor vetoes anti-LGBT bill!

Georgia has finally put an anti-gay bill on Gov. Nathan Deal’s desk (disguised, of course, as a “religious liberty” bill, as if being religious should grant you special privileges…isn’t that the grounds on which they supposedly oppose gay rights?  Special privileges are bad?): The bill — House Bill 757 — would have given faith-based organizations [Read More…]

World’s largest psychiatric association to denounce gay conversion “therapy” as harmful.

This is pretty swank.  The World Psychiatric Association, the largest and most influential such body on earth, is about to make it clear that gay-conversion “therapy” is ineffective and dangerous: The association will release a report tomorrow that will declare its opposition “to any attempts to turn LGBT people heterosexual,” in reference to the effectiveness [Read More…]

Kevin Swanson thinks leaders of the Girl Scouts should be killed for “promoting lesbianism.”

Anti-gay pastor Kevin Swanson, whose support Ted Cruz happily accepts, is back to calling for the deaths of more people he doesn’t like: the leaders of the Girl Scouts: Last week, the ruinously antigay pastor Kevin Swanson — who’s made a career out of calling for the execution of gay people — dedicated a radio [Read More…]

Federal judge rules that SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage bans doesn’t apply to Puerto Rico.

In an absolutely bizarre ruling a federal judge has ruled that Obergefell does not apply to Puerto Rico: In Vidal v. Garcia-Padilla, (D PR, March 8, 2016), a Puerto Rico federal district court held that the recognition of same-sex marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges  does not bind Puerto Rico until further action by the Supreme Court or [Read More…]

Missouri Republicans use rare method to stop Democrats 39-hour filibuster of transparently anti-LGBT bill.

Missouri Republicans have been trying to push through a “religious freedom bill.”  I use quotations because it takes America’s usual prohibitions against discrimination and suspends them for a couple arbitrary reasons:  The motivation is religious  The person is gay (as religious objections to serving, say, Mexicans or black people still wouldn’t fly) I hear Christians [Read More…]

Today the Supreme Court handed down a ruling favorable to same-sex adoption.

The SCOTUS elected to take up the case of a separated lesbian couple (who were never married).  The case involved three children they had while a couple before a bitter break up, after which the biological mother sought to deny her ex-partner visitation rights on the grounds that same-sex adoption was not legal in Alabama: [Read More…]

Alabama Supreme Court dismisses all petitions in opposition to same-sex marriage!

This morning the Alabama Supreme Court dismissed all petitions asking the Court to say that Obergefell doesn’t count in Alabama.  This means that same-sex marriage remains the law of the land in Alabama, but now everybody (still) must acknowledge it: The Alabama Supreme Court this morning dismissed petitions by the Alabama Policy Institute, the Alabama [Read More…]

West Virginia votes down bill that would allow discrimination against gay citizens.

A few weeks ago I wrote about West Virginia’s House passing a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (which, we all know, is code for a bill permitting discriminating against gay people). Indiana’s attempt to reframe legal discrimination against gay people as “protecting religious liberty” cost the state more than $60 million.  West Virginia doesn’t have a [Read More…]

Kentucky law-maker has a not-so-brilliant plan to defeat same-sex marriage.

The issue of same-sex marriage is settled.  After Obergefell same-sex couples have a right to enter into marriage in any state and there’s nothing those states can do about it. But one lawmaker from Kentucky, Joseph M. Fischer (R-eally dumb) has a plan: what if they just stop calling marriage?  Brilliant!  He’s introduced a hulking [Read More…]

Alabama lawyer sues SCOTUS Justices for $6 million over Obergefell.

An Alabama man is suing the five Supreme Court Justices who ruled in favor of Jim Obergefell last summer, and he wants six million dollars: A Bessemer attorney, who is against last year’s order by the U.S. Supreme Court legalizing gay marriage nationwide, on Wednesday filed a federal lawsuit against the five justices on the [Read More…]
