An Advent Mix (Music for Mondays)

It’s the first week of Advent, and though by no means is this the definitive Advent Music mix, I hope you will enjoy it. We have a couple of versions of a timeless classic, Matthew Maher, an unknown group, an ensemble, Joan Osbourne, and Rare Earth, believe it or not.

To start it off, here’s a New Wave lamentation from Naked Eyes

Promises, Promises, The world without a savior? These guys tells us how that is, which is why we have the Advent blues. The world, see, just can’t deliver that which we yearn for.

Which is why we sing…

O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Enya.

God is With Us, Sojourn Music.

What if God Was One Of Us, Joan Osbourne. The miraculous thing is that God did become one of us, and still is one of us.

Lord, Come! And though I’ve never heard this described as an Advent hymn, it works from a certain perspective.

Get Ready, Rare Earth

He’s on his way.

I’ve always thought the best analogy for religious faith is love and marriage. Your work editing these songs here for Advent makes that same statement very powerfully. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the fine work you have started . This music is already here. We may as well use it just as Jesus when He fed the crowds used the 5 loaves and 2 fishes already available from the boy . What are these among so many? A Lot I’d venture. Maybe all He needs.

Love it — your selections truly catholic — universal.
