To become whole, and to live fully. As St. John writes,

“In Him was life: and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness: and the darkness did not comprehend it…He was in the world: and the world was made by Him: and the world knew Him not.”

The Catholic Church knows Him, and brings His light, and His healing power, to all, through the Sacraments.

It seems the world hasn’t understood this, and maybe it never fully will. But as a husband, father, and a guy who wants to become more of a man than I am now, more fully human, the Catholic Church is my biggest help in this endeavor. She was for the saints too.

The saints never left Her, through storms in their own lives, or in the institutional life of the Church. They remained Catholic, through good times, and through bad. The Church was (and still is) their home, their fortress, their stronghold. She was (and still remains) their refuge.

She is the hospital for sinners, and LORD knows I need Her medicines and prayers to bring me to Jesus: the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
