Riding the Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters (Because Catholics Dig Science)

Way back at the end of January and into early February, I was pretending to pilot the Space Shuttle into orbit. Remember those heady days when ya’ll (29,172 of you) signed the little petition that could? Exciting times on the USS Freedom of Concience!

Well, what we have here is the sights and sounds of the launch of the Space Shuttle from the perspective of the reusable solid propellant boosters. [Read more...]

Mr. Obama? Beware the Lee Shore…And the Rock UPDATED

Do you know where political careers go to die? Upon the rock that is the Church. God Himself said that, “upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” So if anyone needs to blink in this game of chicken the President and his Administration are playing, it is the Administration, and not the Church.

Maybe in another country, see, one without a strong tradition of the rule of law, or one where cults of personality and the “strongman” were honored instead of “government of the people, by the people, for the people,” this would take a very long time to play out. [Read more...]

For Your Lenten Friday Night at the Movies II UPDATED

Today, movie fans, we have a first for the YIMCatholic Lenten movie series: a double feature. That’s because the two movies presented here tonight were really meant to be one movie, but it was just way too long. I don’t know if Richard Lester just went wild, or if he couldn’t stand the idea of leaving Alexandre Dumas’ adapted story-line on the cutting room floor. [Read more...]

For Your Lenten Friday Night at the Movies I

Here we are on a Friday night during Lent. So do you know what that means around here, aside from not eating meat? It means it’s movie night! And to kick off the Third(?!) Annual Lenten Friday Night at the Movies, I’ve got young ladies, nuns in habits, and basketball.

The Mighty Macs, starring Carla Gugino, Ellen Burstyn, and (vampire/vampire killer) David Boreanez. [Read more...]

Awaiting an Apology from POTUS = Crickets Chirping, and Other HHS Mandate Tidbits

Though I’m on leave, I sheepishly came back aboard the good ship YIMCatholic again to do some light housekeeping. And I was also looking for the keys to my Mustang. I found them hanging on the hook in my stateroom. Go figure.

So since I’m here for a few minutes, I figure I’d pop off a tiny post on stuff I’ve seen on the HHS Mandate in between my break of deep reading and Lenten reflections. The first item to share is this great cartoon that I saw this morning. Bill Maher, and many others, don’t see the truth is this, [Read more...]

Fr. Leo Gives the POTUS the Finger on the HHS Mandate?

It’s Presidents Day here in the U.S., and I’m on holiday. That means I get to do “honey-do’s” while the rest of the family goes and watches a matinee. But before I light into the list of chores I’ve been given, I wanted to share this gem I uncovered on the HHS Mandate.

I’m a history buff, see? The photograph above is of the crew of the USS Pueblo. Remember the Pueblo Incident? She was boarded by the North Koreans in 1968 in “international waters” and her crew was hauled off and imprisoned for 10 months. During their internment, the crew figured a way to let folks know that they were resisting. Guess what that way was? [Read more...]

The HHS Mandate and the Lord of the Rings

I know. This is a weird title for a post. What does the Lord of the Rings trilogy have to do with the HHS Mandate? Maybe nothing, or maybe everything. Bear with me for a moment and I’ll try to explain.

A few months back, I wrote a little post that I titled Because All of the Big Questions Have Been Answered. Therein, I stated simply that “what is left to do, and one which takes a lifetime to perfect, is the implementation of the answers.” [Read more...]
