Note that I didn’t say that he is a perfect king, or that he is without sin, or that he walks on water, or that he can do no wrong. No.

All of us fall short of the glory of God.  But listen to what he says in this video aired by Fox news the other day. I say “listen to what he says,” because he doesn’t exactly answer the questions the Fox correspondent asks him. Those questions serve more to assuage the Fox News base, than anything else.

Because Christ Came to Occupy, and Reclaim, the World

There was a brutal bear market in the Spring of the year 33 AD. Not in wheat or lamb futures, nor in cloth, or precious metals. This was a bear market of the human soul, and it was experienced acutely by the Disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. [Read more...]

Before getting into the meat of this short dispatch that I am typing from Jerusalem, I ask you to say a short prayer to God for the souls of  all those who have died for their faith, or due to acts of terrorism, or because of sectarian violence here in the Middle East, and everywhere around the world. Protesters In Baghdad: “I am Christian, Sunni, Shiite, Kurd, Mandean,Yazidi, and I am Iraqi”

Artist: Oubai Elkerdi. Source.

ISIS thugs may attempt to kill and intimidate their way to power, but that will fail as long as folks defy them like these great souls are doing. The following story comes to us via Dina al-Shibeeb of  Al Arabiya News, because the Western media is turning a blind eye to genocidal tendencies occurring  in our former live-fire exercise /diplomatic playground.

Tell it, Dina.

Pope Francis With The Quote of the Week

“Dear brothers, dear friends, from this holy place I make a heartfelt plea to all people and to all communities who look to Abraham:  may we respect and love one another as brothers and sisters! May we learn to understand the sufferings of others!  May no one abuse the name of God through violence! May we work together for justice and peace! Salaam!”

- Pope Francis, Visit to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, May 26, 2014

For Your Flannery O’Connor Quote Of The Year

To find out about faith, you have to go to the people who have it and you have to go to the most intelligent ones if you are going to stand up intellectually to agnostics and the general run of pagans that you are going to find in the majority of people around you.

- Flannery O’Connor, writing to college freshman, Alfred Corn

A lot of ink has been spilt these last few days since Evangelii Gaudium was published. Much of what has been said about it isn’t worth the pixels that have been wasted so far. The same old tired arguments from the usual suspects seeking to undermine any moral authority that Pope Francis is seeking to wield by his even bothering to publish it. [Read more...]

Because You Can Never Learn Too Much About The Faith UPDATED

The folks over at John Paul the Great Catholic University have a great idea that will be good for the whole family. It’s a course on  The Pillars of Catholicism, built around the 13 pillars in the graphic above.

I like the number 13. It’s the one that comes after 12. And it looks to be a great way to spend 13 hours or so over the next 13 weeks. Here’s a taste from the trailer that JPGCU posted on YouTube, [Read more...]

Because Catholics Say Stuff Like This…And Mean It

You know, like soon after their city has been devastated by a nuclear bomb. Catholics, being fallen human beings, say other stuff that is less encouraging too. But thoughts like the ones above are timeless, beautiful, and true.

I have faith that I will meet Takashi Nagai in person one day.

Which reminds me! My friends Ian and Dominic Higgins are busting their buns trying to squeeze the film version of Nagai’s life into the can before the next anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing rolls around (August 9). I’m talking about All That Remains. [Read more...]

Because My Pope Speaks Truths Like This

Just recently, back on January 19, 2012 during his address to the bishops of Washington D.C.  and environs, during their ad limina visit to the See of St. Peter, my Pope said this. At the time, the HHS Mandate had already been announced and set in motion. [Read more...]
