Nothing tells your children that you believe in the power of prayer more than praying the rosary with them. And nothing tells them how powerful you think prayer is than praying a novena and the rosary every evening after dinner. [Read more...]
Views of a new Catholic in an old world on the joy and inexhaustible meaning found in the Faith

I know. This is a weird title for a post. What does the Lord of the Rings trilogy have to do with the HHS Mandate? Maybe nothing, or maybe everything. Bear with me for a moment and I’ll try to explain.
A few months back, I wrote a little post that I titled Because All of the Big Questions Have Been Answered. Therein, I stated simply that “what is left to do, and one which takes a lifetime to perfect, is the implementation of the answers.” [Read more...]
Occasionally, folks send me e-mails with tidbits and requests that I share with readers. It’s all part of following the Welborn Protocol, so here are a couple from today.
First up, several regarding the follow-on petition that is climbing the altimeter over at the White House. I mentioned it the other day, and the first of these notes is from yesterday evening. The link for this petition is right over there. ==>> [Read more...]
You know who I mean, right? Marc Barnes, my 18 year old protégé. Or maybe I’m his protégé, except I’m the only one who can call him “the Kid” and get away with it.
Anyhow, go check out Marc’s, A Second Letter to President Obama, Under the Assumption That He Missed the First. And sign his brand, spanking new, petition over at the White House website while you’re at it. It has a very catchy title.
That is all.
UPDATE: The White House didn’t care for Marc’s sense of humor, so go sign the petition link in the sidebar ==>> instead. Thanks!
Catholic style, which is to say, naturally. The Anchoress has a little link filled primer for those who still believe the celibate priests and nuns of the Catholic Church have no idea what they are talking about on this issue.
Most of the links are posts by the laity, you know; the types whom NPR can never seem to find when they are interviewing folks who are leaving mass. Like Joe Six-Pack.
Just recently, back on January 19, 2012 during his address to the bishops of Washington D.C. and environs, during their ad limina visit to the See of St. Peter, my Pope said this. At the time, the HHS Mandate had already been announced and set in motion. [Read more...]
True story. The Catholic Science Geek responds to the Administration’s “Accommodation” *cough* statement with “My First Scathing Letter to the White House.” Bravo Zulu. I hope more people take the initiative to do the same. Especially when they understand molecular biology, not to mention 9th grade biology.
for folks who are used to getting all of their views from the sclerotic filters that trap and extinguish their abilities to think and reason. His article over on National Review Online, in as gentle a manner as is possible for Mr. Weigel, attempts to help make sense, for those who are still wandering in the wilderness of confused hero worship of the God-King, the bishops’ most recent statement. The one in which they say things like,
“We remain fully committed to the defense of our religious liberty and we strongly protest the violation of our freedom of religion that has not been addressed. We continue to work for the repeal of the mandate. We have grave reservations that the government is intruding in the definition of who is and who is not a religious employer . . .”
Dr. Beckwith allows that this quote contained therein, choked him up,
“Our parents and grandparents did not come to these shores to help build America’s cities and towns, its infrastructure and institutions, its enterprise and culture, only to have their posterity stripped of their God given rights. All that has been built up over so many years in our Catholic institutions should not be taken away by the stroke of an administrator’s pen.” [Read more...]
And kindly asks for your support.
Hi Frank,
I largely borrowed your wording from your original petition regarding the HHS Mandate. The one you wrote was taken down since the Administration “responded” to it. I’d appreciate your help in getting this one out again.Thank you!
Theresa
Give her a hand, folks. Sic semper tyrannis.
Besides, most of you have accounts at the White House already. And don’t forget to sign the other petitions out there too. Links to them are here.
BZ, Theresa
