Meanwhile, George Weigel Clarifies Things…

for folks who are used to getting all of their views from the sclerotic filters that trap and extinguish their abilities to think and reason. His article over on National Review Online, in as gentle a manner as is possible for Mr. Weigel, attempts to help make sense, for those who are still wandering in the wilderness of confused hero worship of the God-King, the bishops’ most recent statement. The one in which they say things like,

“We remain fully committed to the defense of our religious liberty and we strongly protest the violation of our freedom of religion that has not been addressed. We continue to work for the repeal of the mandate. We have grave reservations that the government is intruding in the definition of who is and who is not a religious employer . . .”

Why the Constitution Means A Lot To Me

Dr. Beckwith allows that this quote contained therein, choked him up,

“Our parents and grandparents did not come to these shores to help build America’s cities and towns, its infrastructure and institutions, its enterprise and culture, only to have their posterity stripped of their God given rights. All that has been built up over so many years in our Catholic institutions should not be taken away by the stroke of an administrator’s pen.” [Read more...]

As the Bishops Fight On, A Reader Writes Another HHS Mandate Petition

And kindly asks for your support.

Hi Frank,
I largely borrowed your wording from your original petition regarding the HHS Mandate. The one you wrote was taken down since the Administration “responded” to it. I’d appreciate your help in getting this one out again.

Give her a hand, folks. Sic semper tyrannis.

Besides, most of you have accounts at the White House already. And don’t forget to sign the other petitions out there too. Links to them are here.

FYI, The HHS Mandate Petition Skunked the Competition UPDATED

And here’s why: meet the real FoC petition, y’all. Because although the NARAL petition was indeed a Ferrari like the one we knew was behind us, the petition I was driving was good ol’ American Iron of the type that whipped the Ferraris at LeMans four consecutive times. Full of justice, freedom from oppression, and yearning for the good, the true, and the beautiful. Oh, and endowed with a very broad torque band. [Read more...]

Dear President Obama, Go.Pound.Sand.

Deacon Greg Kandra shares the New York Times story where someone in the Administration admitted, “we were getting killed.” Any day now, we’ll probably get the shocking (not!) news that Kathleen Sebelius has decided to “resign from HHS in order to persue other interests.” That would not surprise me at all.

But this did, and in a good way. From the folks over at Fox News, “The following is a statement ed. on Notre Dame letterhead) signed by more than three dozen religious scholars and leaders on the Obama administration’s announcement regarding its contraceptive coverage policy.” Click on it immediately and be amazed.

Huzzah! Resist the tyrant.

The Official White House Response to the HHS Mandate Petition-UPDATED

I reckon this can be considered “breaking news,” because the following note just landed in my e-mail inbox from the White House.

It’s the official response to the little petition that can, written by the person in the photograph above. Take it away (but not our freedoms, please), Cecelia,<

Yes, this isn’t just about contraceptives and who pays for them. It’s about the Constitutional freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights for all Americans. Or is what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr saying below, you know, the night before he was assassinated, meaningless now? [Read more...]

Fr. Robert Barron Makes it Clear…

This is a power grab and a push to secularize our nation and ghettoize Catholics. His article appears in the National Review Online. Here is the beginning,

The HHS Mandate: Anti-Catholic and Un-American
By Rev. Robert Barron

Decades ago, priests, religious brothers and religious sisters were colorfully visible features of Catholic hospitals, serving as nurses, chaplains, business officers, and chief administrators. With the decline in vocations, this obviously religious leadership largely disappeared, but Catholic values, for the most part, still animated these institutions. What has begun to concern a number of observers is that, as today’s medical personnel, staffers, and administrators at Catholic hospitals have accommodated themselves more and more to secularist assumptions, even those values are in danger of disappearing. White House to Announce ‘Accommodation’ for Religious Organizations on Contraception Rule

With the White House under fire for its new rule requiring employers including religious organizations to offer health insurance that fully covers birth control coverage, ABC News has learned that later today the White House — possibly President Obama himself — will likely announce an attempt to accommodate these religious groups.
