“The Quest for the True Cross.” What a Movie That Would Make!

As you may know, today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. I found a pretty good short piece on the finding of the Holy Cross over at Magnificat. But as usual, I went looking for more. Whoa…Mr. Spielberg? I’ve found material for your next project. This would make an epic screen play! Take a look.

As The Holy Spirit Broods Over A Bent World, We Send Out The Children To Be The Face Of Christ

Full credit for the paraphrase embedded in the title above goes to priest, and poet extraordinaire, Gerard Manly Hopkins, SJ. I thought of it today as I saw photographs of the Catholic HEART Work Camp trip that two of my children are on this week. [Read more...]

The Real Culprit Behind the Attacks Across the Islamic World UPDATED

The Colors flying at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo Egypt, at half-mast. September 13, 2012

I’ve been thinking about the attacks to our embassies all across the Islamic world. Like the rogue character Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, me thinking is a frightening prospect, I know. But I cannot help but do it, as I served in Cairo, Egypt and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia as a Marine Security Guard (MSG) at our embassies located in those two capital cities of predominantly Muslim countries.

I spent 15 months or so in both of these countries fairly soon after a barracks of Marines was blown up in Lebanon (1983), and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut was blown to kingdom come (1984). [Read more...]

Another $1,000 Donation Received for “All That Remains”, And North Korea Is Giving Up Her NUKES?

Both events happened yesterday. Are they related? Honestly, I have no idea. But in the midst of Presidential Campaign sabre rattling fervor directed towards the sovereign state of Iran, I was heartened to learn that the less sexy alternative, diplomacy, made some serious headway in North Korea. An “All That Remains” Praise Report

CGI drawing of the Urakami Cathedral

Fresh off spending an evening at the Oscars with family and long-distance friends (thanks to the wonders of television and Facebook), I just happened to notice where your favorite film producers’ (ahem, that’s me, in case you’ve forgotten) fund-raising kitty for the film All That Remains is sitting. It being Lent, the season for almsgiving mind you, a kind soul has taken the opportunity to show the project some mercy in the form of a $2,000 donation. Anonymously. [Read more...]

A Word From Your Captain: The USCCB Has Noticed The Petition

Via radio transmission from the U.S.S. Freedom of Conscience, Joe Six-Pack, USMC, Commanding

Howdy folks. This is a mighty wild ride, and let me tell you, the FoC is a rockin’ and rollin’! But the reason I’m calling you in mid-flight is this: I just wanted to thank each one of you who have signed, or shared, or posted the little link that shows the Administration that we believe in the First Amendment, and the whole rest of the Constitution. If you haven’t had the opportunity to sign it yet, here’s as good a reason I’ll ever have to try and push you into action: our Bishops have got our backs on this one. Lookee here: [Read more...]

White House Petition Update: Houston…We Need a Faster Ship UPDATED

See that awesome rocket plane above? Twenty-two short hours ago, that was our new ticket to the top of the pyramid. We had moved from the Blackbird to the X-15. But it turns out that the X-15 was just another step in the climb, see? She was only good for about 4500 knots indicated airspeed. [Read more...]

The HHS Mandate Petition Catches Air, and User Tips UPDATED

What started out as a little fledgling, struggling to get airborne, has morphed into a bird that the atmosphere is struggling to contain. If signatures on a petition are equated to knots of indicated airspeed, this is what she looks like as of now.

SR-71 Blackbird, "Velocitus Incalculus"

That’s because as of 10:00 AM (EST), 2,524 brave, patient, and persistent, people have signed the petition. Bravo Zulu, folks! The White House website isn’t the most intuitive, nor does it like Google Chrome very much. If you’ve had problems signing the petition, and can’t figure out why it won’t let you, try Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer. [Read more...]
