Concern for religious freedom both here and abroad has been growing for years, and now there are calls for immediate action. Pretty soon, the Supreme Court will hand down their verdict on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. This decision, and how it affects the HHS Mandate, has been discussed early, and often, in this space. The controversy swirling around the mandate from the Department of Health and Human Services, which forces religious institutions to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-causing drugs for their employees, escalated this past week.
There have been scads of opportunities for the current Administration to smooth over the concerns of folks regarding their moves athwart the First Amendment of late. Regarding rights of conscience, and religious liberty, in particular, though they try to argue that all is well, folks just aren’t buying it.
Pick up stones and hurl them at me if you want to, but I won’t be dragging the family to the theaters this weekend to watch For Greater Glory. Nope, not even at matinee prices. I’ll just wait for it to show up on Netflix, if I bother to watch it at all.

You would have to have been living under a rock not to know that religious liberty has come under fire here in the United States. Those who believe that the Catholic Church is wrong to get involved in the politics surrounding the HHS Mandate, for instance, have unwittingly bought into the argument that there is a “wall of separation” between Church and State, and that one should be completely separate from the other.
