A Letter to Saint Joseph

Dear St. Joseph:

It’s your feast day in the Church today, and even if you don’t want to be bothered, because you’re a real worker bee, lots of folks are going to extol your virtues ad nauseum today. None of us are sure what those are though, so you’ve kind of become the “fill in the blank” saint for all that is true, good, and solid, if not quite beautiful. [Read more…]

From Slave to Bishop, Everything You Wanted to Know About St. Patrick, And More

I love reading about the lives of the saints. Especially from the old books like those found on the YIMCatholic Bookshelf. That is where I found the following narrative. It’s funny, because the author says “not much is known about…” and then launches into a 3,500+ word essay on St. Patrick and St. Brigid.

What I share below is just the part about St. Patrick, his story, and how he has been depicted in the art of the Church. [Read more…]

For Your Lenten Friday Night At the Movies, III

One of the things I enjoy about sharing movies with you during Lent is…seeing movies that I missed when they came around the first time. This is one of those films, and it’s called Saint Ralph. Here’s the set up, which sounds like it’s perfect for my house full of teens (and one tween). [Read more…]

Not Sure If Donating to Making “All That Remains” is a Good Idea?

I can understand where you’re coming from. You’ve been burned before. Or more likely, you’ve been duped by shoddy productions and bad acting when you were hoping a film would measure up to the standards you’ve come to expect. You loved Fr. Barron’s Catholicism series, for instance, and want more top quality productions like that.

So I have a proposition for you: [Read more…]

An “All That Remains” Praise Report

CGI drawing of the Urakami Cathedral

Fresh off spending an evening at the Oscars with family and long-distance friends (thanks to the wonders of television and Facebook), I just happened to notice where your favorite film producers’ (ahem, that’s me, in case you’ve forgotten) fund-raising kitty for the film All That Remains is sitting. It being Lent, the season for almsgiving mind you, a kind soul has taken the opportunity to show the project some mercy in the form of a $2,000 donation. Anonymously. [Read more…]

Why We Should Follow Our Bishops Now And Lead Them Too

But we also have to lead them by example. Sheep leading the shepherds? Bear with me a minute.

The other day, I wrote a post on why we should fight the HHS Mandate. Today, I return to that theme, and expand upon it while clearly sharing the not so earth shattering information that many Catholics in the pews do not care one iota for what the Bishops say about contraception, much less the HHS Mandate. [Read more…]

A Message to the Administration from the Communion of Saints on the HHS Mandate

What the Obama Administration doesn’t seem to understand is a truth that needs only to be uttered in the calmest and softest of whispers.  The Church will never support the HHS Mandate, because the Church can never knowingly commit a sin.

Though She is chock full of sinners (100% certified, grade-A sinners, by the way), with low-end mucky-mucks like me (surely one of the greatest of them) spilling over her gunwales, She herself is supernaturally free from the stain of sin. And that’s not something that Joe Six-Pack just made up to make himself feel better, either. It’s a supernatural truth that needs no banging of gongs or clashing of cymbals to precede it. The Cinematic Good vs. Evil Matrix and a Message from Mission Control UPDATED

Above, in poster form, are thoughts that flashed though my mind as the solid propellant boosters on the good ship Freedom of Conscience were jettisoned. As these different scenes along the matrix of good vs. evil flashed past my mind’s eye, I recalled the words Our Lord spoke to St. Paul on the road to Damascus, [Read more…]

Thanks For Donating to Help Make “All That Remains”

Just a quick note at the beginning of the day to say thanks to everyone who has donated to help make the film All That Remains. A Phase 3 funding drive is happening now, and I see $315 sitting in the kitty ==>> as of now, with 41 days to go. Have you check out the new All That Remains website yet? Head on over there. While you’re strolling around with your mouse, buy a t-shirt, coffee mug, or mouse pad at the Store. [Read more…]

Because the YOUCAT Helps My Children and Me

You may have missed the fracus a few years back when I killed Santa Claus, but his memory still lives on. In our house now, “Santa” means “unexpected gifts from Mom and Dad.” This past Christmas, see, Santa gave each of my children a copy of the new Youth Cathechism, also known as the YOUCAT. [Read more…]
