God Made The Little Spider, That In Turn Made This Amazing Web…

Unfortunately, most of it has broken and what is left can barely be seen.

But if you look closely, you see can how the spider triangulated the moorings of the web, from the little bowed end of the hemlock branch below, to the two others.

Do you see? [Read more...]

For A Reader’s Query, A “Real” Catholic Reply (Music for Mondays)

A long time ago, over on the YIMCatholic Facebook page, I shared a music video. It’s a little ditty about the Whole Foods parking lot and it did go viral. It also made some readers scratch their heads and ask,

Did I miss something? Why is this on the YIM page? [Read more...]

Pope Francis’s Homily Today at St. Anne’s is Simply Beautiful UPDATED

Pope Francis is a great extemporaneous speaker. Here is the homily that he delivered today. Deacon Greg gives us a taste, but below is the “must see” video.  [Read more...]

What To Get That Special Man In Your Life For Valentines Day? I Can Guarantee He’ll Never Forget This…

As Pat Gohn shames us men into drafting epic love letters for our sweeties this year, will us men be rewarded in kind?

Here’s an idea, ladies. We’re pretty easy to please. [Read more...]

Memo to the Blog-o-sphere: Saying Atheists R Stoopid is Lame

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that witnessing to atheists, at least in the manner that seems to be popular in the Catholic blog-o-sphere nowadays, is in a sad state of affairs.

Posts thumbing our noses at atheists, posts basically saying that atheists are idiots, and posts attempting to stick their noses in what some believe to be atheist formed pools of pee-pee (I reckon), is pretty much de rigueur. [Read more...]

Because God Is A Crazy Farmer, Thankfully! UPDATED

I’ve been working in the yard around Casa del Weathers. One thing I’ve been doing a lot of lately is weeding. Not that I have some sort of pristine yard that I need to keep up so I can one up the Joneses, or anything. But I like my flower beds to contain flowers, and not weeds. As for my yard, which out back (especially) is pretty much a random assortment of weeds and grasses that are shade tolerant, I pretty much follow the dictum to live and let live.

Except for the dandelions. [Read more...]

A Song Dedication to All the Bishops, and Those Standing Up for Religious Freedom

Sorry guys, but after reading the USCCB’s response to the ridiculous proposal by Seizure to rip our religious freedoms away, I just can’t help but share this tune with you. After all, we have a long standing tradition of holding fast, and not knuckling under. [Read more...]

The Cinematic Good vs. Evil Matrix and a Message from Mission Control UPDATED

Above, in poster form, are thoughts that flashed though my mind as the solid propellant boosters on the good ship Freedom of Conscience were jettisoned. As these different scenes along the matrix of good vs. evil flashed past my mind’s eye, I recalled the words Our Lord spoke to St. Paul on the road to Damascus, [Read more...]

Thoughts on How Christ Prayed Under Duress

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude…

Is it wrong for me to wonder to myself this question: What would Jesus pray? What would God, as the Son of Man, pray to God the Father?  I read a Psalm of David today that makes me believe a) perhaps this is how Our Lord prayed for strength while he was undergoing his trial, and b) David “saw” this and again prophesied events that have been fulfilled. To Forgive, But Never Forget

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him. And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.

So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Thoughts worth facing.

A homily worth reading.

A reflection worth understanding.

A pilgrimage and a prayer worth making,

A song worth playing,

Scriptures worth pondering over,

To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. (Psalms 31:1)

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house, O Lord: they shall praise thee for ever and ever. (Psalms 83:5)

Blessed are they that keep judgment, and do justice at all times. (Psalms 105:3 )

Blessed are they who search his testimonies: that seek him with their whole heart. (Psalms 118:2)

Now therefore, ye children, hear me: Blessed are they that keep my ways. (Proverbs 8:32)

Blessed are they that saw thee, and were honored with thy friendship. (Sirach 48:11)

And I heard a voice from heaven, saying to me: Write: Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord. From henceforth now, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow them. (Revelation 14:13)

Better posts worth reading.

A final prayer worth praying.
