Because Jesus Said Plenty About Marriage, and Other Inconvenient Stuff Too…UPDATED

Hey y’all. Didn’t you know that Jesus didn’t say nothin about homosexuality in the Bible? True story. You ain’t gonna find Our Lord say that particular word nowheres in the Scriptures. It’s like he never heard of that situation. Heck, everbody knows that if Jesus didn’t say it, it don’t exist. Right? Just ask Stephen Colbert.

Of course, Jesus said plenty about marriage, and I’m here to tell y’all, it’s damned inconvenient to the spirit of the age nowadays. [Read more...]

Proof Texting A Comment Policy? I’m All For That

The folks over at Sojourners don’t have a comment policy. They have gone one better and have adopted a Comment Covenant instead. And the neat thing is that they have also provided the Biblical passages to back up their reasoning.

It’s a clearcut case of faith+reason= AWESOME. Take a look, [Read more...]

Scripture Quote of the Week…

From St. Paul’s letter to the Romans (13:8,10),

Avoid getting into debt, except the debt of mutual love. If you love your fellow men you have carried out your obligations. Love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbor; that is why it is the answer to every one of the commandments.

Because Everything Matters, When Christ is Our Center

Back in the Fall, I shared a post with you about fallen Hollywood heroes asking for mercy. Does Hollywood matter? Does anything, given the finiteness of our earthly existence? I’m reminded of a title of an album by John Cougar Mellencamp: Nothing Matters, And What If It Did? [Read more...]

News for the “War on Women” Contingent: the HHS Mandate Makes War on Your Liberty and Your Gender UPDATED

Period. End of story. That is the truth.

The problem, though, is that the truth isn’t favorable to the current Administration. President Obama, and his capable staff, know that this is true, which is why they only seek the opinions of folks like NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and Catholic groups that are not empowered to speak for the Church. This is why the Administrations’ “accommodation” was crafted to fool folks into thinking that this is a “war on women” and a “war on contraception.” [Read more...]

For Catholic Thoughts on Life and Death Brought About By Tragedy UPDATED

By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread,
Until you return to the ground,
from which you were taken;
For you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.—Genesis 3:19

We’re almost a third of the way through Lent, and reckon I needed to cry today. Perhaps you need to cry too? As such, I’ll share the following tragic story of a hero’s death that sent me running for the tissues this morning, and forced me to yet again examine my own life. [Read more...]

Ben Franklin’s Warning, Winston Churchill’s Observation, And Catholic Support for the Rights of Mankind UPDATED

For about a few months now, I’ve been mentioning things political that should matter to Catholics, and thus to all human beings. A few months back, I mentioned a scandal with our war dead that is another marker of trouble. Mark Shea wrote on these issues in a manner that helps bring to light what is at stake here.

For as St. Paul writes in his letter to the Romans, [Read more...]

The Politics of the HHS Mandate Made Clear UPDATED

It’s all about getting votes for the incumbent, and staying in power. It’s a calculated risk, mind you, and one that looked like a good bet until the outcry from the Catholic Church, and others like-minded in their understanding of the First Amendment. The Administration thought it was prepared for this contingency, and waiting in the wings was an “accommodation” tailor-made to put to rest the fears of the affected parties.

There is only one problem. [Read more...]

Why We Should Follow Our Bishops Now And Lead Them Too

But we also have to lead them by example. Sheep leading the shepherds? Bear with me a minute.

The other day, I wrote a post on why we should fight the HHS Mandate. Today, I return to that theme, and expand upon it while clearly sharing the not so earth shattering information that many Catholics in the pews do not care one iota for what the Bishops say about contraception, much less the HHS Mandate. [Read more...]

Meanwhile, In Mr. Obama’s Old Stomping Grounds, John Kass writes…

in the Op-Ed pages of the Chicago Tribune,

The way President Barack Obama has started a war with Roman Catholics, you might think Obama never set foot in a predominantly Catholic town like Chicago. [Read more...]
