The Most Interesting Man In The World And Phil Lawler Agree: Archbishop Carlson Is Incredible UPDATED

And I mean incredible in the following sense of the word.

Unbelievable, beyond belief, hard to believe, unconvincing, far-fetched, implausible, improbable, highly unlikely, dubious, doubtful, etc.

Here’s a snippet of Phil’s editorial over at Catholic Culture. [Read more...]

The Vatican To The United Nations, “Say What?”

You have probably seen that some committee at the UN has said that the Catholic Church needs to change her teachings on abortion, contraception, and that she hasn’t done anything to protect children from sexual predators, etc., etc. Here’s what happened next. [Read more...]

We Are Being “Outevangelized” Because We Have “Outscandalized” Folks

Image Source: Don Bartletti, Los Angeles Times

Yesterday I shared a post written by Gerard Nadal wherein he explained that when it comes to the subject of same-sex marriage, we were not “outmarketed,” as Cardinal Timothy Dolan said in an interview on Fox News, but we were “outevangelized.

Today comes another story from the papers. One in which your intrepid, if simplistic, naive, ignorant (and whatever other description you care to make), blogger can calmly, albeit sadly, compose a brief post with the title above. A story that points clearly to the reasons why we are being “outevangelized” these days. [Read more...]

Our Lady, Untier of Knots

This message is for most of us who aren’t directly involved in any of the ongoing scandals that continue to percolate to the surface these days, like in Newark, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the latest scandalous news coming out of Cleveland, but who understand that we need to do something.

It’s time to break out the big guns of prayer and fasting, is all I can figure. How to do that? Check this out. [Read more...]

Joe Six-Pack Unpacks Pope Francis’s Interview (Part I) UPDATED

Pope Francis knows who really pays our bills…

“I do not know what might be the most fitting description….I am a sinner. This is the most accurate definition. It is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. I am a sinner.”

Pope Francis’s candid answer to the first question of the interview read ’round the world set the tone for all that would follow. [Read more...]

Jesuits “Lied for Jesus” About This Priest For 40 Years…UPDATED

Defrocked Jesuit priest Donald McGuire leaves the Dirksen Courthouse in Chicago after a hearing in 2007. (Zbigniew Bzdak, Chicago Tribune / November 9, 2007)

As you might guess, this turns out badly.

It’s timely that I posted something earlier  about the sexual abuse scandals, whistleblowers, and how lying about them for Jesus has damaged the Church. And when I say Church, I mean the present, and future, faithful. Not the buildings, or the hierarchy. I mean the full Body of Christ in the world.

Manya Brachear of the Chicago Tribune has the scoop on how the headline above came to be from a story that hit the wires just a little while ago. [Read more...]

Meet the “Catholic Whistleblowers,” Learn the Fate of Father Fugee, and Revisit “Lying for Jesus”

You may recall the recent goings on in the Archdiocese of Newark related to the scandal of sexual abuse of minors. Well, a number of priests and religious have banded together to form a posse of sorts, and they call their little band of brethren the Catholic Whistleblowers. Laurie Goodstein of the New York Times shares the story up about them. [Read more...]

It appears that this might be the case, if I’m reading the letter that Archbishop Meyers wrote to the priests of the Archdiocese of Newark back in February correctly. Of course, he may not have known that Fr. Fugee was violating the agreement with the local Prosecutors Office, though there seems to be plenty of evidence pointing in that direction. [Read more...]

If This Happened In My Diocese, The Bishop Would Know My Eye Color Down to the Flecks…UPDATED

Me and my lifetime ban, hangin’ with the kids…

He would see them up close and personal when I asked questions like, “Isn’t there an abbot in a remote monastery who needs a permanent dishwasher in the scullery for work while said dishwasher is not praying the Divine Office? Why is this man not sent there?”

Who is Father Michael Fugee, and why should you care? Folks in New Jersey are pretty familiar with him and his story. His handling, or mishandling, by Archbishop John J. Myers is pretty much the thing of which legends are made. Legendary ineptness, I mean. [Read more...]
