I’ve been thinking about the attacks to our embassies all across the Islamic world. Like the rogue character Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, me thinking is a frightening prospect, I know. But I cannot help but do it, as I served in Cairo, Egypt and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia as a Marine Security Guard (MSG) at our embassies located in those two capital cities of predominantly Muslim countries.
I spent 15 months or so in both of these countries fairly soon after a barracks of Marines was blown up in Lebanon (1983), and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut was blown to kingdom come (1984). [Read more…]
In fact, she transcends homosexuality in the same manner that she transcends everything, be it politics, economics, justice, health, and every other category you can name that involves the human person. Everyone who is a member of fallen humanity, say “aye!”
The Anchoress, Mark Shea, Marc Barnes, Michael Voris (!), and I all line up on the same side of the room when it comes to the teachings of the Church on homosexuality. Why? Because we believe her teachings. And though I can’t speak for my friends standing on the same side of the room with me, I can speak for myself when I admit that I once did not. The same is true for the Church’s teachings on marriage, divorce, contraception, the death penalty, etc., etc. Like many a (former) Protestant, see, I was my own Pope. The buck stopped here. What the Obama Administration doesn’t seem to understand is a truth that needs only to be uttered in the calmest and softest of whispers. The Church will never support the HHS Mandate, because the Church can never knowingly commit a sin.
Though She is chock full of sinners (100% certified, grade-A sinners, by the way), with low-end mucky-mucks like me (surely one of the greatest of them) spilling over her gunwales, She herself is supernaturally free from the stain of sin. And that’s not something that Joe Six-Pack just made up to make himself feel better, either. It’s a supernatural truth that needs no banging of gongs or clashing of cymbals to precede it. You just thrown their dead bodies away. And then when you are discovered, and your feet are held to the fire, you complain that it would take a “monumental effort” to do our war dead justice. Yes, our dead troops who out of one side of our mouths we act as though they are holy and sacred, while with our actions we shun, ignore, and toss them into a landfill in Virginia.
