Jon Stewart On The Origins of the Diplomatic Solution to the Syrian Crisis

Straight, with crooked lines…

Language alert, but worth it. Especially Stewart’s masterful delivery of a “syllabus of errors” leveled at Fox News between the 3:44 and 4:00 marks.

Vladimir Putin, From Russia With Love?

His future’s so bright, he’s got to wear shades…

Valdimir Putin in the New York Times, writing with poise about the de-evolution of US foreign policy, the purpose of the United Nations, and the pathway to peace in Syria. I think he studied the speech delivered to the UN by Pope Paul VI, back in the Fall of 1965.

PSA: Charlie Rose Interviews Syrian President Assad on PBS Tonight, 9PM Eastern

I don’t normally tune in to Charlie Rose on PBS, but seeings how tonight’s guest is Bashar al-Assad, I will be. Tune in, as it should be an interesting conversation. Hopefully my local PBS station will be carrying it, but you never know.

I want to get a look at the bad guy, and here what he has to say to Charlie. Lord knows I’ve heard about as much about the Syrian Free Army as I can stand. Did you hear what the rebels did to several of the ancient and beautiful churches in the city of Maloula, about 45 minutes north of Damascus?

Democratic Congressman Becomes Bump In The Road In Administration’s Mad Rush To War

Ah, Hawkye Pierce and Father Mulchahy…

And I’m hoping and praying that the bump becomes a hump the size of Mount Everest.  Here’s a snippet from an interview between The Atlantic’s Molly Ball  and Congressman Alan Grayson, D-Florida.

There was some thought that John Boehner and Eric Cantor coming out in favor of intervention might mean momentum was building in that direction.

Absolutely not. I think it’s a fantasy to talk about momentum. Conceivably it will end up losing two to one instead of four to one. [Read more...]

Pope Francis to Vladimir Putin and the G20: In Syria, Seek Peaceful Solution, Not Military Action

Let me make this perfectly clear…

Specifically, the Holy Father asks that all leaders of the nations meeting in St. Petersburg today, “lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution. Rather, let there be a renewed commitment to seek, with courage and determination, a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation of the parties, unanimously supported by the international community.”

Here is the text of the letter in full. [Read more...]
