I have read that the Mormons use these posthumous baptisms to boost the numbers. I've also read that their geneology databases aren't all that accurate. I don't know how not to be baptized by them posthumously, I do know that you must write a resignation to leave the church if you are still alive. Not sure how many ex-mormons bother with that, and I'm sure they count those people as well. They are referred to as "inactive" members.

I don't mind that they do it if this is how they also happen to go about producing genealogy databases. I don't know where it would be officially recorded, or if they use dead people to buff up their numbers and get more funding like the Catholics do (not baptisms of the dead, but making it difficult to excommunicate oneself if you were made Catholic in childhood). I may be mixing up a bunch of stuff, but I'm in favor of someone doing all the family tree legwork. Maybe they should also have to list a person's belief at death, known/unknown/unspecified/none. "Now they are a Mormon" doesn't really get to me. Sorry that doesn't answer your question. I wouldn't know where to begin to get myself off a LDS list, as no matter how hard I try, I still get a wide variety of junk mail I'm not old enough to qualify for and menus for restaurants that aren't close enough to deliver, while Xfinity sends a love letter to their neighbor at my address at least twice weekly. I have no idea how to straighten out with the Morms.

I suggest looking at the corpse and saying, in a manner reminiscent of Dr. House, "I told ya so." Or perhaps performing a segment of George Carlin's skit on death. ^.^

I had heard about this practice before, and apparently it is a hot button issue (see article http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=146876064)

Is there any way to get on the "do not baptize" list from the mormon church? I would like to put myself and all of my family on that list.
