I'm not under 30. If I was, I think I still wouldn't wear those boots. I don't have any idea what that's about.

@Ty - is good that you're married, so women can go be hairy. I can't really look past it either, to tell you the truth, but women tend to be competitive with each other. I have so little patience for the chore of trying to look sexy so people don't consider me repulsive, but I shave my legs if anyone's going to see them.

Oh! You have a lot of funny clothes! :) So nice!! Those "secretary sneakers", from our perspective, look like a mixture between a ballerina shoes and soccer shoes!
And the brightly colored boots! WOW!
You must be very free and independent people! That´s so good

May be Buenos Aires is still too European conservative style.

Kodie, I absolutely agree that it's awful what women have to do to make their legs look hairless and sexy.

But if a woman has hairy legs, I just can't see past it.

I know this makes me a shallow, awful person, and I am helpless to control it anyway.

There are conservative offices where that dress style is still mandatory, although, don't quote me, I don't think they can force a woman to wear a skirt or heels. There may be a rule that bare legs and skirt is too casual for the environment. Many offices have a "business casual" dress. When I had a job, I wore a stretchy knit top and pants with lycra in them, so it felt like I was wearing pajamas, but look professional. A lot of secretaries don't wear heels, they wear something I call "secretary sneakers". Here is an example:

http://www.srmax.com/images/products/350/350/skechers-hobbie-black-mary-jane.jpg

In fashion terms, though, pantyhose are for old ladies. The US is very large and fashion isn't the same all over. I live in Boston, Massachusetts, which was called one of the worst dressed cities in the US. I think at work, my style was boring but easy to wear and easy to match. When it rains, just about every woman under 30 wears brightly colored rubber boots like a 4-year-old. It's not very stylish here, not like New York City.

Really??
Oh! here in the offices and certain jobs as medical visitor, or a secretary, we have to use skirt and pantyhose. Not allowed bare legs in offices. And pants... may be for certain offices, but if the office receives external people (for example a bank or real estate, or medical centers),pencil skirt and pantyhose, with platform high heels shoes, are mandatory.

Nobody wears panty hose even in the winter. They might wear tights if they're in style. Panty hose are only for old ladies now. I'm alright with that, since I just wear pants if it's cold. I almost never wear skirts anyway, but I hate panty hose.

Kodie
Tal cual!!
It´s so boring... :( Fortunately I have to do this once every two months.
Nevertheless we have the magical resuorce of pantyhose :)))
Even with pret a porter or office clothes, is much more adequate the usage of pantyhose, than bare legs.
Even when my legs are perfectly epilated, I find that bare legs don´t match with formal clothes.

Speaking of epilation - I have this other electric gadget I sometimes use. It is sort of like the old "epilady," it has a rolling bar of tweezers that pulls out the hairs as you go over them, and over and over and over them. After it stops hurting, it's not so bad. Not to brag, but my legs are like a mile long and I have thick German hair, so this takes forever but lasts a little longer than shaving. I also get really bored while shaving so I might get it half done.

I think if someone thinks bare legs are sexy, think of the torture devices, as well as the distraction of beauty compliance from other productive endeavors that it means to be a beautiful woman in our culture. I hate hair.

@Noelle
May be for the first time the epilation may hurts, but the second time, third, and so on, it should become painless. At least that´s what I´ve experienced.
Nevertheless, shaving is pretty much faster than epilation, specially when the person have a few hairs, very low density (like me), is needed to make so many attempts until the machine eventually catches the hairs.
But when the person has a high density of hair, the machine seems to catch a mass of hairs at once.

I apologize to all women for perpetuating this as a beauty requirement. I feel bad about it. I do. You guys should never have to remove any hairs you don't want to remove in order to be beautiful.

The fancy 4-blade Venus razor sample that came with my bag of cheap pink 2-blade razors is much nicer. I can't bring myself to use the cheapo ones now.

Whose idea was it that American women shave their legs? I like the look, but it takes time and seems silly. I have never once found myself surprised by an emergency swimming competition and the need for hairlessness. Armpit shaving makes sense for hygiene purposes. Deodorant works better without hair in the way.

I also keep my head hair on the long side because I am too lazy to learn to do anything with it and the standard part down the middle and brush downward works for straight hair. It also works for the quick pony-tail at the nape of the neck in case I need to grab a scalpel and go into warrior mode.

I personally like a lot to kiss a guy with facial hair :)
It´s kinda wild!
May be a 1 day stubble could be painful for my skin if the guy doesn´t get control of his passion, but a longer beard is kinda fluffy and so nice!, like kissing a doggie :))

I used to have a bit of facial hair, but (yes I know this is extremely weird) whenever the whiskers near the bottom of my nose get more than about an 1/8 of an inch long, I get uncontrollable, painful sneezing fits. So I had to spot trim it slightly away from the nose, which simultaneously made it look slightly ridiculous and was also a real pain. What finally tore it was my current S.O. just bloody hates kissing a guy with facial hair, so that's that.

I do miss being able to stroke chin whiskers when I'm thinking. Stroking a smooth chin just feels silly.

@Darwin, Elemenope: this is why I added the "healthy" clause.
I want to keep it practical.

Indeed, as 'Nope explains, there would be nothing stopping you from considering infinite hyposthesis.

@Ursa: it is not a logical necessity but it is a practical one.
Unless you want to consider invisible pixies in your microwave heating your food with their magic breath, or the door's soul willing it slam when it is annoyed by the wind and so on, ad infinitum.

I don't particularly dislike shaving, I'm just fucking lazy.

This said, I am a staunch advocate of the dry, electric Occam's razor, for a solid and intellectual two-days-without-shaving look, redundant hypotheses be damned!

I prefer mine buzzed short the way you see it in my avatar pic, but that's expensive. Right now, it's back in a ponytail, and will probably remain that way until I get rich and famous and the royalty checks start rolling in. Short or long, either one is easy to care for, but the year it takes to go from the former to the latter is a royal pain in the ass.
