I have observed on Christian forums how the christian hyenas close in for a kill when the slightest pertinent question becomes impertinent(unanswerable)and reality becomes disrespect.

This is shorthand for, 'how dare you question my faith'. I am however heartened by the increasing amount of fundies that use the internet and their own abilities to ask questions. If anyone dare question the contradictions and inconsistencies of their only instruction manual the piranhas surround you. However, from the experience of those who have deconverted, this acknowledgement of contradiction appears to be, in private, the first steps to reason.

I find that atheists on Christian forums share the same problem as Christians on an atheist forum: they quickly get swamped from all sides.

I'll play village atheist on a general forum, but on Christian forums I get tired of trying to keep track of who's saying what and which arguments need responses.

Ty, Christian forums have their share of drive-by trolls. But they can also have unbelievers and atheists who just like to talk about the subject. Just depends on the makeup of the forum and how tolerant the moderators are to disagreement. The one I moderated was quite tolerant as long as everyone was polite. Others I used to frequent were absolutely draconian with their rules. Any questioning of The Faith had you booted permanently.

I think the reason that most atheists wouldn't want to hang out on a religious forum is that we already deal with religious people and hear their side of things every day whether we want to or not. But a gathering of atheists is rather more unusual, thus some religious folks would be curious...

Of course I have no evidence for this theory, but it seems logical.

I guess I'm curious about the fact that every atheism (or even skepticism) forum I've ever followed had a contingent of regular Christian posters, in addition to the usual drive by "JESUS IS LORD LOLOL" types that they all get.

I'm curious, because it doesn't seem to be a two way street. I can't imagine wanting to hang out on a Christian forum, and it seems most atheists feel that way.

I have occasionally. Only if it doesn't require registration.

It only happens when I'm directed there by other blogs (pharyngula mostly) which only happens when they (the theist sites) are proposing something COMPLETELY stupid. It's mostly creationism that gets me commenting!

I used to be "active" on a site debating creationism vs evolution. It was started by some youtube troll and I did not post that much and neither did any one else. The site got deleted as far as I know.

I used to be a moderator at a Christian forum. Then when I started doubting, and eventually deconverted, I started debating with people there (granted, the people I'd always disagreed with, even as a Christian).

But it didn't last long. I realized pretty quickly it wasn't fair to do that, and I was being a bit of a dick (basically I was taking all my arguments with religion there as an outlet so I wouldn't argue with people in real life), so I left.

Chances are good that if I posted anything substantive on a Christian message board, I'd get yelled at more than I would here (although probably not more than I have been yelled at on other atheist message boards. At least there would be less swearing.)

No I don't. But if I encounter Christians rambling on a non-Christian site, I have an unbearable urge to correct any logical fallacies presented... But not all the time. Just when I'm feeling particuarly pedantic. I've been linked to a few hardcore fundie sites, but that was more for the lulz-factor.

Well, in a sense I suppose, only I wasn't correcting misconceptions about Atheists. More countering assertions about US and world history that erroneously made claims about the religiosity of specific figures or motivations for certain events, and assertions made about scientific theory and methodology.

It's hard to remember. I'm pretty sure it wasn't to convert. Perhaps a bit of intentional antagonism. Mostly, though, I just became irritated with the factual/historical errors that got bandied around as "evidence"; I guess then, it was an urge to correct inaccuracies, though a bit more obnoxious.

Would you say your intent was to convert, or antagonize? Or did you have an intent at all?

Yeah. I was young and a great deal more rambunctious.

A long time ago (like, high school long time ago), with a different nickname, I used to hang out at CARM's message board to throw elbows.

I've never posted on a religious forum, and have only read them when I googled a specific question and a link took me to one.

But the one inevitable fact of atheist forums is that you will wind up with Christians taking up residence.

I'm wondering if any of the atheists here regularly post on a religious forum. Anyone? Just curious.
