   I'm not actually new to Unreasonable Faith. I joined several years ago with a different user name and entered into several forum discussions. Then life got busy and I got distracted...and forgot my log-in info. Soooo, I'm back with a new username, "Poincicco".

   I just got an email update this morning on the battle with cancer that a Christian friend from college days has been waging. Her husband wrote it. Here's the title:

   "Margie met Jesus today and He took her breath away!"

   It's no biggie, but I just HAD to share that with someone and ask if it also struck them as being just a wee bit WEIRD???

   A weird and uncanny mystery. Not, however, for this husband whose brain is wired to be happy with an invisible being (?) floating into the room and taking his wife's breath away. Will he ever be able -or even want- to foster skeptical thoughts?

   What do you mean with 'Unreasonable Faith". Isn't it a redundancy?

   Uncanny valley.

   At least his belief system is internally consistent. I can respect that. When believers are absoloutly devistated when a loved one dies, it looks to me like they really don't believe there is an afterlife. The rare believer who looks sad, and will miss their loved one, but fully expects to see them again soon are few and far between.

   Federico, "Unreasonable Faith" is the name of this website. That's what I was referring to by "not being new to 'Unreasonable Faith'. Nothing profound there :)

   Revyloution, I too can appreciate consistency in a belief system. I do think, however, that most "believers" have to really work on believing in times like the death of a loved one. I was in Christian ministry for 45 years (yeah, I'm an old phart) and watched it in action from close up. There's a lot of fear in the face of death, even in the camp of believers. Hope of life after death is cultivated and maintained by constant repetition and encouragement. The fantasy has to be fed and protected from reality in order to survive, and this is a big reason that religion thrives, despite the cognitive dissonance inherent in its belief system. At least, that's how I understand it at the moment :) Be well!
