Well I know how to change the settings, now. It's already marked. I did not open anything "in" a sandbox. I expected it to work just the way you said, and when it didn't open, I guess I went looking for a button that says "sandbox" so I know where to go find my program. At the time that it happened, I was not given really a choice, I suppose, "don't open" was the choice to back up and notice the default settings and change them. Nothing opened. "Open in the sandbox" was "click this button and nothing happens". A lot of other people have complained about the default settings, although their problems seem to be different and more sophisticated than mine.
You know, I didn't write it all down. I had this app installed last year, and it worked. I came across a game that, for some reason or other, which I totally forget, I thought uninstalling the app and reinstalling it would be a reasonably good idea. At around the same point, either before or after, I lost my internet. I remember trying to download games at the site in the library, on a portable drive, and trying to install them in the app at home - but they need to meet the internet in that process. This is when the sandbox thing happened, last year around April or May, right? So I go a couple months, from what I understand, after sometime in August, WildTangent changed something about their app, a lot of people are having trouble with the upgrade around August. I come back online in early December. At the first time up until now that I've tried and tried to install this app, I get the 1-260 error. The first time, I looked it up, found a remover through this site: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com (Some of the programs look mighty useful if you are into it and verify their safety). I looked into and verified it was safe enough to try, except it was already lapsed and no longer free - "we found all these programs and we'll remove them if you pay". I am not even sure any of that happened. Something like that happened.
Then I gave up for a while, then recently I tried other game sites for a while. I don't want to try a game for an hour, but I don't want to buy it just to play once. They have no replayability for me (and gets expensive)! I played this one game that popped up an ad every 3.5 minutes, didn't matter what I was in the middle of. I used to be ok for a while with the "free with ads," didn't care if the game was old, but it used to wait for the ad when you were in between stages, now you get to be interrupted about Jamie Lee Curtis's diarrhea solution 20 times in an hour. So yeah, I guess if I can't get this to work, I'll forget about it again for another couple months, like I always do anyway.
Seems no matter what I do, the 1-260 error disallows the program to finish installing. It would be sort of nice to get some other kind of error, at least I knew something I'm fiddling with has some effect. Maybe it wasn't the sandbox.. a lot of anti-virus doesn't like WildTangent, but opening something in a sandbox seems a fair compromise. I have changed the settings and try, I have turned of anti-virus and try, I have uninstalled and deleted anti-virus and try, I have cleaned, searched, deleted by hand, I found a file with a notepage and a gear icon - it looks just like it has something to do with being the sandbox. If I knew what I was doing, I might alter the notes on the page to =0 instead of =1, but I don't know how to do that or what exactly to expect would happen if I did. Since opening the program in the sandbox didn't have predictable results, I really don't want anything even worse to happen. It is - just a game. Why risk all my photos, documents, personal preferences, favorite bookmarks, emails, private passwords, etc. from dicking around with this. Not gonna do it!
I'm officially done writing all about this drama. I will let you know if I get some success with it somehow, but I don't expect to. I appreciate all you being handy and suggesting things to try. :)
