Just wondering if I am the only one that was hoping for a dose of real change, and a partial or total repeal of the laws and policy of the last 8(or for me the last 29) years of how this country treats the bulk of people within it's borders. Didn't this country need a new FDR and not Carter light? Heck I suppose I would have been happy with a LBJ without the anti-communist problems and other civil rights issues, since FDR only LBJ has truly advanced the cause of 95% of the citizens and perhaps made it worse for the top 5%, in any consistent and long standing manner.
The last 29 or so years has been a tale of union busting and a systematic whittling away of any safety net for our citizens, as well as a tale an increased tax burden on those least able to support it. During this time, as well, the insurance and business lobbies have grown and prospered at the expense of everything else(I am using business lobbies to include many factions, granted.) Reagan and Bush one completed much of the work started by Nixon to destroy everything FDR and LBJ built, and those that came after furthered the work, yet Obama has done nothing to stop this slide, and has worked within a system designed to further decay what was once accomplished..the fact that a single payer,or an expansion of medicare has never been the central plank in healthcare reform is a great example, the use of TARP to mostly prop up huge wall street corps. is another.
I know this is kind of scattershot and does not go into great detail, but I want others thoughts on the whole thing, I am reasonably sure many libertarians on the site will not agree with my concept that in some cases more gov. is better, but I expect it and hope they, including Dan Florien, will respond with their thoughts on how he's made it worse or could make it better and how they thought of the last 30 or so years.
