Just wondering how true that is.
hands up if you smoke pot

It's insulting. Atheism is an outlook, not something with prescribed actions.
There's nothing wrong if asking if there is a correlation. Any causative logic would probably be ridiculous seeing as how Atheists are not a coherent group, as such, but the results might be interesting nonetheless.
And, yes, BTW. Every once in a while.
I don't. But I find the hypothesis funny. Funny in a "who cares?" way.

Never done it, never want to. Heck I don't even drink alcohol!
What are you, Mormon!?
I do not, but I would sometimes, but I haven't in well over a decade, I estimate. I might have forgotten some occasion in the meantime. I think pot-smoking is not an atheist > pot-smoking, but rather a pot-smoker > pot-smoking kind of thing. Some pot-smokers are atheists.
i dont, i dont think this is true at all really.
:~0~~~~~
I don't. I drink alcohol on occasion, when I can afford it. I like Rum and Coke myself, though I do like some wines, and other driiiiinks.

Yeah, I understand. Just giving my opinion on it separate from you. Eh, details. My comment wasn't directed at you.
I don't do any drugs. Don't smoke, don't drink. I even try to avoid over-the-counter drugs if I can, though I've broke on some occasions when I was sick and the pain was too much.
Never smoked pot or tobacco, not interested in trying, but love alcohol and had a great time with the leftover of my vicodin scrip from getting my wisdom teeth out.
yeah, i smoke weed. daily. in fact, i'm high right now. heh.
I believe you. :)
I'm an atheist - don't smoke pot or anything else, and rarely drink (gives me migraines). But I think any adult should have the right to smoke pot - and it makes me very angry that there are laws which deny this right and treat us all like children. (At least it is like this here in the states - land of the occasionally free.)
p.s. to above:
Sorry if I sounded a little heated, since this is in the humor section. Some subjects just push my buttons.

A joint would sort you right out.
Maybe so. But they'd toss me in the clinker. :) (I'm the type who would get caught right away.) My young nephew spent a weekend in jail for a marijuana violation - and I'm still seething on his behalf.
Actually, I have no interest in taking drugs - unless to help through an illness - and in the case of pot that is (mostly) illegal too.
Something funny would be good here. Trying to come up with something funny. Nope - nothing's coming to me. Darn!
No pot. I simply enjoy regular reality too much. Never been drunk, either, but sure have had fun watching others get drunk!
Here in Oregon, marijuana can be smoked (with an easy to obtain doctor's note) in one of our "marijuana cafe's". I have a friend who lives on rural property with a marijuana grower's permit. The Sheriff came by and inspected the crop to make sure he was following county regulations on volume and visibility.
I'm not a smoker of weed or tobacco, but its about time this plant was decriminalized. Call me cynical, but I have long believed the real "problem" with marijuana is that it is easy to grow and easy to use. Alcohol and tobacco are a huge revenue stream, and certain interests don't want a cheap alternative.
My brother is a felon because he had some plants in his garage. He nearly lost his business and his home - and this was just a few years ago. How things have changed. I hope the day will come when this "crime" can be erased from his record.
Have smoked it very occasionally in the past, but never got on with it. So no.
i'm surprised about how many of you say you don't smoke. i'm just so used to everyone i know and meet into drugs - and not just marijuana. maybe it's just me.
Not just you, but definitely seems to be your crowd. Peer groups have a lot to do with influencing people's behavior. I even read about a correlation existing between your weight and the weight of your friends!
Smoked it once, all it did was make my eyes itch.
A few of my friends smoke it from time to time, and I have no problem with that. I drink, but not every day by any means. I must admit, I have some prejudice against anyone who uses any drug on a daily basis. Too much evidence to support the notion that it stunts your emotional growth. From a strictly anecdotal standpoint, all of the daily drinkers/drug users I know seem to be stuck in a high school level mentality.
I think atheists are less likely to view something as inherently bad, and generally pot is not seen as extrinsically bad, certainly it compares favorably to alcohol.
Roughly daily, btw. But I don't drink. And my peer group tends to drink but not smoke, so it's not that.
Fun fact: Carl Sagan was an enthusiastic pot advocate and wrote pro-marijuana / pro-legalization essays under the pseudonym Mr. X. The more you know! "I can remember one occasion, taking a shower with my wife while high, in which I had an idea on the origins and invalidities of racism in terms of gaussian distribution curves." lol
To take a statistical approach, one could draw a correlation between percentage of population who smoke cannabis against percentage of people professing "no faith" or somesuch indicator. I'll pull something together.
Oh, and no, never have. Was tempted to smoke a cigarette once after a particularly stressful day of exams, but didn't. Never been drunk either.
No, never have never will same for all drugs. I don't drink too. I prefer reality over an altered reality.
I prefer reality over an altered reality.
That's called laziness.
3 of my buddies live in an apartment with the address 420, I'm moving in next year. It almost seems like a waste that none of smoke pot.
