So! Some of you may know me, and others may remember me. I've been a regular reader for maybe half a year now. I used to be a regular commenter, but lately I've been more of a peanut gallery than anything.

I'm proud to announce that I am an addict of alliteration and atheism.

I've been an atheist for as long as I can remember, but I've only really embraced the idea of it recently. It's easy to claim to be something without fully understanding it, all I know is that I've never really bought into the whole guy-in-the-sky (nor do I believe that Christ in me is the mystery of the ages). I'm born and raised in Georgia, so it's a mystery as to how I managed to avoid buying into the bible beliefs.

I've spent some time in Georgia. Based on my memory, the entire state is composed completely of waffle houses.

Ty, the entire southeastern U.S. Is composed of Waffle Houses. And Cracker Barrels. We have IHOPs, too, but mostly we figure them's fer yankees. It's the International house of pancakes, after all, and that means it's probably full of foreigners.

I ate Okra for the first and only time at a Cracker Barrel while I was there.

That's why I'm glad I live in Atlanta. If I have my Zune, then I can just shut out the southern accent and pretend I'm somewhere else. A land where people speak clearly, have an average IQ over 90.

I'm not bothered in the least by people's accents. It's terrible grammar and spelling that get under my skin. Half of the people in this state are functionally illiterate. I had a guy ask me how to spell "cult" yesterday.

You don't understand what I mean by accent.

I had someone say "Uppen dat derr hole derr lil bit derr."

Which, if the words were spoken clearly, would've been "Open that there hole there (a) little bit there."

Which MEANT! "Please roll down the window."

I'm sad to say that I understood what was said, and rolled down the window without asking for clarification.

It's good to be bilingual, Sock. I can translate from Hillbilly to Hip Hop if the need arises.

Ty - my former preacher was a New Hampshire transplant to Tennessee, and he loved southern cooking, except okra, which he called "southern swamp weed". I was born and raised in TN, and I agree. Nasty stuff.

Yeah, but there are somethings that I just DON'T want to know. I don't want to know the best ways to carve up a human to cause the most pain. I don't want to know how human flesh tastes. I don't want to know how feces tastes. I don't want to know what it feels like to be roasted alive, shot, or stabbed in the face with an ice pick.

I also don't want to know how to speak Hillbillianesse.

Sock, I think you're great, but I should remind you that alliteration applies to consonant sounds, while assonance applies to vowel sounds. Anyway, it's good to see that you're still around.
