All in the name of football!

This would matter to us if it was about a real sport that any American paid any attention to.
"Hey, want to watch the soccer game? The brits burned a flag!"
"Uh, is the NBA finals on?"

First of all, Liverpool does not represent England nor English football. They were burning the flag because Liverpool F.C is owned by two Americans who do not understand the game and have made a complete pigs ear of the club.
Second, its called football, not soccer.
Third, Its a sport that rules the World and if you are paying no attention to it, what the hell are you doing playing in the World cup?
Basketball is for wimps. :)

Um. Contrary to the limited thinking of the "American"... it is very much a real sport.
And yes, football that blows the touchdown pathetic attempt at "sport" out of the water.
Hell, I watched the Stanley tonight, along with some baseball.... *nothing* on the World Cup....
I can't wait for Saturday...

... you mean a sport that only Americans play so the can claim they are the world champions?

Now now Jabster. There's one Canadian team in the baseball and basketball.
In a few years, there's going to be F1 in Austin, so the Americans can watch the strange sight of racing cars turning right as well as left.

@James G
There probably have to put up sign posts so they don't get lost ...

Sarcasm. Ty'll do that.

I'm pretty sure soccer is only 68.4% real sport.

"Soccer" can't say I've heard of it ...

That´s an incredibly precise figure. How did you arrive at that?

Well, we do need filler teams for Brazil to pwn ;)

Spain is gonna kick Brazil´s ass, after kicking the USA´s ass that is.

I ROFLMAOLOL whenever I hear World Series in relation to baseball.
LOL!

Science.

Hey, I played soccer for three years in high school.
But watching it on TV is like watching already dry paint get dryer. Of course, I have the same opinion of baseball, which is supposed to be America's sport, even though it comes in a distant third to football and basketball in the ratings.
My only point is that to really hurt our feelings, it will take something we actually pay attention to to do it.

Of course Americans don´t care about football. I mean, if they did happen to win a game against one of the top rated nations, it´s not like they would make a Hollywood film about it... oh wait, what´s this?

Let's both kick the US's ass and then gang up on Argentine?
Also: ROFL at the movie... 1-0, what a victory! Oh mai!
Also #2: it should be noted that Brazil lost that World Cup to Uruguay (to our eternal mortification). The U.S. lost to Chile - 5 - 2, even. Ouch.Posted 3 years ago # -

The movie was ignored as well.
Like 'Goal' which was supposed to be the big breakthrough soccer film in America and made seven dollars at the box office.
I enjoyed playing soccer. It's a fun sport. But my point is that you can't make American's interested in it even at gunpoint.

Personally, I find football to be absurdly boring. Then again, so is baseball and golf (and american football is just silly).
Basketball is OK, though.Posted 3 years ago # -

Kind of like you can't get them to acknowledge there is a whole big old globe out there and that the Atlantic and Pacific aren't the end of the world.

I think watching all sports are boring, unless someone I know is playing, and then it's only somewhat boring.

I like to watch futbol, especially the World Cup. I've got a nice rivalry going with a bunch of my Mexican buddies, but I never had the wind to play the game myself. I wish people in the US would take the game more seriously, but I'm afraid I have to agree that they never will. I think since we already have hockey and basketball-- two games with rapid transitions between offense and defense, goals which involve nets, penalty shots, and players called forwards-- there's just no room for the game here.
I played a bit of rugby in college, and was a tackle on my high school football squad. But NCAA football, IMHO, is the game of the gods. Unlike futbol, hockey, and basketball it is a game of methodical strategy as opposed to rule-based, transitional chaos. OMG, I'm beginning to wax rhapsodic. I'd better quit before I start spouting nonsense about it being the most beautiful (non-female) thing I've ever seen, almost like poetry on grass.
Unfortunately, it is currently being ripped apart by the love of money-- which is the root of all evil-- and the traditional conferences are morphing into three or four super conferences based on TV markets. Rotten. Bastards.
Baseball is good for having on TV while taking a nice long nap, listening to for a few minute on the radio while taking a shower, or playing with buddies and at family/school reunions. I can't watch it though. ZZZZZZ.
NCAA basketball is OK, if my alma mater is playing.
I haven't been able to enthusiastically watch any pro sports of any kind for thirty years now, since my beloved Oakland Raiders sold me out and moved to LA. Who cares that they came back? Rotten. Bastards.
Now fantasy football though-- there's a great concept. I don't have to be loyal to any team-- and if any player doesn't work for me, he's gone. What have they done for ME lately? I'm in total control, and no one can sell me out-- I sell THEM out. Bwaahahahaaa.
And as far as those Brits burning Old Glory is concerned, it's not much of an issue for me. I can just think of plenty of better reasons to burn it than a futbol controversy, is all.

Never underestimate the passion of football fans :D
I like watching the World Cup because that's when my whole country goes deliriously patriotic. It's the only time it happens, too, so it's a bit like a national event. It's great fun not because of the sport but because of the parties.
The only sports I enjoy watching are equestrian sports, because I love horses.Posted 3 years ago # -
don't like football much. chasing mindlessly after a ball is not so interesting. I don't watch sports that much. Not my thing.

"don't like football much. chasing mindlessly after a ball is not so interesting."
Then you are watching the wrong teams.
