It's been chilly up here in recent days. At one point I happened to be walking in the morning and passed a young woman dressed as young women sometimes do: low rise pants under a belly-baring shirt, low cut neckline designed to reveal enough cleavage to make the imagination redundant.
And my first thought was, "dear, that has to be cold."
*sigh*
Hey, at least the new music was good when you were young. My generation has Lady GaGA and rappers spending more money than a third world country.

FYI, I plan to stop the aging process and then sell it for a lot of money (except for my friends, who get the goods at cost). Does that make me terrible, awesome, or delusional?

It's true. By the time you have enough money to afford the really hot chicks, you are probably married with three kids, and too tired to keep up with them anyway.
I see guys my age suddenly single, through divorce or death, and ponder what would happen if my wife were run over by a bus. I've got money, my own house, a job that sounds cool, all that. I could probably make a nice dent in the dating scene. And just thinking about it makes me unbelievably weary.
To paraphrase Krusty, "I'm not the kind of boyfriend that says stuff, or does stuff, or even looks at you. But the love is always there."

I'm only 30 years old, and I'm deeply disturbed that Nirvana and Alice in Chains are now classic rock.
It was weird enough when Pink Floyd was "classic rock". I have to say though, given the passage of time, Grunge/Alternative has more staying power culturally than the scoffers would ever have given it twenty years ago. I haven't listened to the radio lately enough to experience Soundgarden on an oldies station, but being 28 years old the thought is unbelievably depressing.

I think a person should have to be able to remember himself as fully "himself" but half his current age before being able to consider "himself" old. For me, turning 30 and remembering when I was 15 was shocking, but looking back on 25 from 50 is absolutely mortifying, I'm afraid.
My brother just turned 60 (I'm 51), and he agrees with me that 50 is the one that makes you see the passage of real time. When five year chunks seem to whiz by like years, you'll know what I mean.
So enjoy 28 and 30, my ancient young laddies. You've a ways to go before you're old.

Growing up in the 80s, Ringo Starr was famous to me as the guy who narrated Thomas the Tank Engine. The fact that he used to be in a band was irrelevant.

I always wondered how Ringo must have felt about being in the Beatles. On the one hand, he was quite obviously the least talented Beatle and his songs were rubbish. On the other hand, despite all this, he got to be in the most important band of all time. Personally, I think he looks at himself in the mirror every morning with a big smile on his face and says to himself, "how did I get to be in the Beatles?"

Actually, I played the hell out of the 'Ringo' album in high school, and think his music overall is highly under-rated. 'It don't come easy' will always get the hair up on the back of my neck. Many of his songs have a comedic aspect to them which I like, and I think many of the comedic vibes from the Beatles' earlier period/movies were helped by his presence.
Ringo was my favorite Beatle. There, I said it. I can live with it. And when I see him on the late-night talk shows, laid back, still cracking jokes, I don't feel so old.
And I can still remember when I was a kid, sitting in the barber's chair, looking at photos they had on the wall of the Beatles so you could decide which of their hair cuts you wanted. And I used to love the Beatles cartoon show, which I think was on every Saturday morning.
Yeah, I'd want to be young again, but only if I could know everything I know now, and do it back then, instead of today. Grumpy old man alert-- I think the old days were better days.
