Chapter One: Religion in the Black Community

In addressing the role of religion in the black community, Gorham talks about the way ideas like fear, sex, and submission are used to keep people from speaking (or even thinking) against religion. As an outsider, I always wondered at the mentality of church leaders – how much do you think that they consciously understand this paradigm, and exploit it? Or unconsciously?
