"Vocation." For some of us the word invokes a lifelong calling to a single purpose, for others "full-time" religious service.
In "My Faith and My Calling" we hold an interchannel dialogue between the Faith and Work and Evangelical Channels examining our vocations and the motivations behind our life's work. We hope you’ll enjoy reading and that you’ll see "vocation" may be broader than you think.
Google vocation and you will find that search engines confuse it with "vacation" (which many vocations, sadly, are not.) It comes from a Latin word meaning "to call." People often use it synonymously with the word "calling," in fact. But what are most of us called to? Can we be called more than once to different things? How are we called? And what are we supposed to do when we get there?
Further, does my Christianity change the way I approach my work? How can I balance work and prayer? When should I stop talking and start working? How can I persevere at work even when I don’t see God? Can I follow God’s will without knowing how I got there? The Faith and Work Channel and the Evangelical Channel have gotten together to address these questions.
