Donald Trump’s campaign has been filled with blatant bigotry against many marginalized groups. George Takei addresses the racism Trump has spouted off against Mexicans in particular and explains the danger of such racial demonization. Takei and his family spent years in the Japanese Internment camps during World War II.
Before Japanese Americans were placed into camps, political leaders were dehumanizing Japanese people and lumping them all into one bad group. The negative language against the Japanese is very similar to how Trump started off his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists and murderers. Takei reminds us how much power words can have and the consequences of electing someone like Trump into office.
