I fear that thousands of people deceive themselves and assume they are Christians, even although they do not meet the test of the Bible. But there are also many genuine believers who because of their doubts and Satan’s temptations, form negative conclusions against themselves, even when the Bible speaks peace to them.

How should we understand the Bible’s promise which says that every believer “has the witness in himself”? Can someone have this evidence inside themselves and not be aware of it? God’s evidence is certain and unchanging, and yet we often burden ourselves with additional tests and signs of our own creation, rather than relying on what the Bible says about this.
