I have had the privilege of getting to know him personally a bit as well, so I was thrilled to read him speak about \u00a0his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edstetzer.com\/2013\/04\/my-take-matthew-warren-mental.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">article at CNN Regarding Mental Illness<\/a>\u00a0on his own blog. \u00a0I have decided that I will highlight a couple of other articles on mental illness before returning to my own series, which so far includes two posts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Can a Christian get depressed?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2013\/04\/can-a-christian-get-depressed\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Can a Christian get depressed?<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"What are mental illnesses and disorders? What effects do they have?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2013\/04\/what-are-mental-illnesses-and-disorders-what-effects-do-they-have\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">What are mental illnesses and disorders? What effects do they have?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stetzer explains four critical points that I couldn\u2019t agree with more:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1. We need to stop hiding mental illness.<br>\n2. The congregation should be a safe place for those who struggle.<br>\n3. We should not be afraid of medicine.<br>\n4. We need to end the shame.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here are some more quotes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edstetzer.com\/2013\/04\/my-take-matthew-warren-mental.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">his blog post<\/a>, or you can read <a href=\"http:\/\/religion.blogs.cnn.com\/2013\/04\/07\/my-take-how-churches-can-respond-to-mental-illness\/?iref=allsearch\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the CNN article<\/a> at their site.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMost churches (and Christians) seem unprepared to deal with mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>As a young believer, I heard so many say that mental illness was just a lack of faith, demonic oppression, or something else. Those can be real issues, but so is mental illness\u2013 and they are just not the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen the impact of mental illness both in the church and in my own family. I\u2019ve seen the shame that families felt and the scared or confused responses from churches . . .<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are people in the pews every week \u2013 ministers, too \u2013 struggling with mental illness or depression.<\/li>\n<li>People of faith know that God has freed them to love others, and that love extends to everyone, even (and sometimes especially) those we don\u2019t understand.<\/li>\n<li>Christians need to affirm the value of medical treatment for mental illness.<\/li>\n<li>Compassion and care can go a long way in helping people know they don\u2019t have to hide.<\/li>\n<li>Mental illness has nothing to do with you or your family\u2019s beliefs.
