I was directed in a personal email to read Psalm 115:1, and found myself keeping on reading. May this passage be a motto for us all as we enter 2014. \u00a0I see in this passage some resolutions we do well to make at the turn of this year.<\/p>\n

a. A resolution to put God first and seek his glory<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an age of being encouraged to \u201cbuild your platform\u201d how about we determine that we will build God\u2019s platform this next year. If you tweet, run a blog, or post to Facebook, determine that you will increase the number of times you link out to something someone else has written that brings glory to Jesus, and will help build his Church. \u00a0It\u2019s not about you. It\u2019s all about Jesus. \u00a0 He is worth all our adulation and praise! \u00a0We will praise him all our days, and for all eternity. He will not leave us in the grave but give us eternal life which will make every torment in this World seem like a night in a bad hotel.<\/a><\/p>\n

b. A resolution to hold firm to our faith despite the mocking of the nations<\/strong><\/p>\n

2014 will bring more opposition to God and his people. But, we still believe that God is not shaken up by this. \u00a0As I preached from Psalm 2, God is not insecure. \u00a0<\/a>\u00a0We will trust in him and worship him, whatever the World throws at us! He will<\/strong><\/em> revive his Church, and we are NOT on the back foot!<\/p>\n

c. A resolution to dare to believe that God will bless us.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These verses couldn\u2019t be clearer in the promises they offer. \u00a0He will help us. He is our shield. He has NOT forgotten us, and WILL BLESS US! He will bless us whether we are \u201csmall\u201d or \u201cgreat.\u201d \u00a0We are meant to enter this year with confidence, hope, and he wants us to dare to ask that God will increase us and our children. \u00a0We must refuse let our reaction to the excesses of the Word of Faith movement rob us of true faith.<\/a>\u00a0 Spurgeon wrote \u201cCheckbook of the bank of faith<\/a>\u201d so we needn\u2019t fear taking ahold of God\u2019s promises.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Psalm 115<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
\nfor the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
\nWhy should the nations say,
\n\u201cWhere is their God?\u201d
\nOur God is in the heavens;
\nhe does all that he pleases.
\nTheir idols are silver and gold,
\nthe work of human hands.
\nThey have mouths, but do not speak;
\neyes, but do not see.
\nThey have ears, but do not hear;
\nnoses, but do not smell.
\nThey have hands, but do not feel;
\nfeet, but do not walk;
\nand they do not make a sound in their throat.
\nThose who make them become like them;
\nso do all who trust in them.
\nO Israel,1 trust in the Lord!
\nHe is their help and their shield.
\nO house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
\nHe is their help and their shield.
\nYou who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
\nHe is their help and their shield.
\nThe Lord has remembered us; he will bless us;
\nhe will bless the house of Israel;
\nhe will bless the house of Aaron;
\nhe will bless those who fear the Lord,
\nboth the small and the great.
\nMay the Lord give you increase,
\nyou and your children!
\nMay you be blessed by the Lord,
\nwho made heaven and earth!
\nThe heavens are the Lord\u2019s heavens,
\nbut the earth he has given to the children of man.
\nThe dead do not praise the Lord,
\nnor do any who go down into silence.
\nBut we will bless the Lord
\nfrom this time forth and forevermore.
